hmm, pakistan still does a have a large amount of poor, and almost all of them live in rural areas. Its that Pakistan has a very fast grwoing middle class which is mostly contributing to pakistans economic growth. For Pakistan to become a truly developed country the rural poor also need to have a decent lifestyle.

It just ruins your experience. This is pretty much the only forum I've seen where people can get away with such things. cell phone fobias as there were other like VCR in late 70's - 80s, computer 80s-90s have gripped Pakistan... demand for newer or expensive ones is tremendous.. though on +ve side so many people like carpenters, masons etc. are now connected with clients.. its like a office to them.. the wave of this fobia a abeting now in big cities but its still high on small to medium size cities..

but its mainly because they have gotten so cheap. You can get a basic phone for 1500-2000 rupees..and connections are free. And more important, calls are so cheap. inter-pakistan, averaging a rupee per minute, and international calls for 2 rupees a minute (direct dial), it makes sense. Its more expensive calling from US to Pakistan than Pak to US.

Poverty ? Do you even know the meaning of this word.
Poor are those people who know that their neighbour are dying in cold and and they lock their doors and sleep in cosy house ...
Those are not poor who have only one bread to eat for dinner and they share it with their hungry neighbours and offer shelter when they see they are left with no shelter, no food.

In Pakistan, the cell phones are smuggled so are cheaper.
One good thing though, the connections rates are better - no incoming charges.
I think Code Red is right - it seems true. Besides, I heard the similar kinda stuff about Internet usage as well.
and since when mobile phones mean progress. The development is measured by Per Capita Income, GDP, etc etc. not by smuggled products sold in the shopping centers.
