theology 106

What kind of an operative Satan (iblis) is ? according to your religious scriptures ?

According to quran n bible it is a creature

now

Whether satan has a free will ?

does he has the ability to make decisions ?

if your answer is yes then answer the following question too

**Can he (Satan) mend his ways and repent ? **

Re: theology 106

Yes.

Re: theology 106

^^ But i thought he/she was doomed till eternity........ no chance for repentance

Re: theology 106

satan has no free will ... I think

He is a programed entitiy, with clearly defined mission parameters

Just like Angels have no free will

Re: theology 106

Iblees/Azaazeel is among the jinns and jinns have free will jsut like human beings have free will... The only two creations given that option...

he has free will and he is allowed to repent - the only thing is that Allah already knows that he won't repent on his will hence it is told that he is doomed... by telling he is doomed did not take his right of free will away :)

There are narrations that I read where people asked Prophet(SAW) about prophet being the mercy on all creations hence, his part of mercy for shaitaan and he replied... just the advice for him to go and prostrate at the grave of Adam (AS) and repent.... but prophet mentioned he would not...!

Interesting !

Scriptures tell us that this entity is doomed and bound to hellfire.

Now if the entity has a free will and he knows for certain (110%) surety that he will land in hell. Now a common man or jinn can never have this level of certinity which he might have. now iff he has a free will then why on earth he would like to land in eternal hell ?????

Another logic If God has given him free will it can jeopardise his whole game plan. See God wants to test men and Jinn through evil forces namely Satan and Co. So if he mends his ways the whole game plan of testing good bad deeds is left in the middle.

Re: theology 106

perhaps your answer is somewhere present in the part which you did not make bold in the writing that you had quoted or NOT quoted for that matter :)

Ok
For satan's point of view what are his reasons for not mending his ways ??
Provided he has the ability to reason ?

He has already challenged God Almighty and he has been successful in single handedly distracting overwhelming population in Not believing in ONE God. Thus he has succeeded in his mission.

Now if he repents then he has won on both ground.

Why he wont do that, provided he has free will and ability to reason ?
Looking at Satan's POV

Re: theology 106

Very intersting topic you guys.

AQ some excellent points.

Re: theology 106

Perhaps if we stop looking at satan as an entity but rather a quality that each of us are capable of possessing....it may give a different perspective.

Satan (or the quality which is satan-like) will always be present within us and as such does not have free will. Man has the free-will to choose what he wants to do with "satan". The power lies within us.

As for the question "does he have the ability to make decisions?" I think not as it is a personality trait and we make the decisions to conquer "the satan" or be conquered by "it".

Re: theology 106

^ Basically this discussion is based on the assumption that Satan (shaitaan, iblis) is actually is an entity, a creature. If we leave this assumption aside then there is no realm of this thread.

Re: theology 106

also how does satan influence our actions? i mean the mechanics of it, how would you explain it to a brain surgeon if you had to?
