hey guys… i have the most worst cold at 39 weeks…i went to the er last night because havnt been sleeping cuz of the non stop coughing… the doc there wrote me a ic benzonatate 100 mg fo the coughing. i wnt to the pharmacy to pick it up.. i askd if it has side effects and its safe to take it during prenancy he sa i wouldnt.. im stuck btw taking it now or not… i havnt slepy cuz this cough is killing my sleep.. but i dont wan ro hurt my baby by taking it. has anyone heard of this pill or took it is it safe to take? my mw is back on monday… im kinda stuck…please help

so the doc who prescribed you this knew you were pregnant?? I mean why would he prescribe you something that is not considered safe for pregnant women?
but then don't you have any midwife on call that you can call and check with her? like at my midwife's clinic, there is someone available 24/7 and they all know your history and such!

Call your doc to confirm. If you have obgyn, you should be able to call him anytime too.

I had a horrific cou that would make me throw up every night... Doc gave me an inhaler... Worked gteat...
If the dr prescribed it, i would say bismillah, allah hu shaafi allahu kaafi, and take it... They know ure expecting...they wpuldnt give something that isnt safe...
Ifu arent sure... Ask dr again...what does the leaflet say?

yep check the leaflet and lots of medicines become safe to take in the third trimester which would be otherwise riskier in the first. But definitely consult with your OB

I had a very bad cough that was just not going away.
My ob/gyn gave me antibiotic after I told her I have tried all the natural remedies and my cough was bad nd I had it for atleast 2 months. She said she was concerned that all the coughing may cause less oxygen to go to the baby and so i should take the antibiotic to fix it.
