The Word "Shia"

AoA,

I would like to know the word “Shia” came from whom? What is the meaning of “Shia”. How one person or a group first time known as ‘Shia’. I don’t wish to know what they do, why they do, how they do etc., except the above. So donot turn this thread into shia sunni or in any other sect debate.

shi'a is an Arabic word and it mans a "group **OR party"** :)

Members of a party or followers. The proper term is Shiatul Ali and means "followers of Ali".
