The word "Sexy"

I don’t criticize its use and I know it is used causally (without any intentions to mean it), but I personally feel uncomfortable if a friend uses it for me in a joke. Well, it depends on a person’s sense of humor but considering its meanings in dictionary:

Do you feel comfortable when you hear it on TV or anywhere. Some people like to use it for their spouses. They might feel comfortable with it, but I don’t think that is the way I would prefer to call my wife. Sex is just one part of the relationship, may be there are better / cute words (nicknames) to show respect towards one’s wife.

I might be wrong. What do you think ?

p.s. The worst thing I heard from a person who referred to a movie is “Grandma tusi sexy ho” Again they don’t mean it, but looks odd to me.

Re: The word "Sexy"

Is there any word used for it in Urdu, that might indicate its being part of Pakistani culture ?

Re: The word "Sexy"

umm i dont like it when my best friend or "my someone" calls me that word. i feel very awkward!

Re: The word “Sexy”

Yeah I dislike that word too for some reason. I don’t know why it is but it just doesn’t sound very :bummer:

Yes in Urdu the word that you are Looking/Not Looking for.......is:

"Namkeen"

Re: The word "Sexy"

As usual with many word the dictionary meaning sound more offensive than every day use of this word.
It is a street slang now for charming , pretty, witty, etc ,etc.

Street use of some words change the meanings of a word entirely . For example now bad is used to mean good , at least in USA's teenagers and young generation use it in that sense now a days.

Re: The word "Sexy"

There is nothing wrong with this word...I think it goes back to the phobia of sex being labeled as something bad or sexual desires labeled as impure or bad. Are we supposed to control our desires..yes, but they are not impure or bad they are just natural desires. Hence the term sexy is perfectly fine as long as it is used in a kosher way.

:omg:

i know this oen girl, she posted pics of her family and her self, and as a caption she writes “my sexy friends..my sexy family”…i know she doesn’t eman it in the original way (but she is pretty stupid) but it does sound quite oddd

Re: The word "Sexy"

paris hilton and nicole richie started it by calling anything good "sexy"

Re: The word “Sexy”

^ no. They copied me by saying “thats hot”. I have been saying that for the past ten years and then they come on tv and say it and it becomes popular

Re: The word “Sexy”

Submission unkil… your friends call you “sexy” ???

Anyway, the every day use of the word has now made it to mean “desirable”, not necessarily in a sexual manner. What you call your wife, is obviously your personal choice, but its good you cleared up this question. Good for you!
