The word "izzat" is an english word?

I was catching up on baseball news and landed on a newstory about the spelling bee (go figure!). Check the link below:

How come the word “izzat” is now considered an english word, or at least why are the spelling bee participants asked to spell it to win the competition??

Faisal bhaijaan, angraizoN mein izzat nhin hoti so they had to use our word...not that we don't have enough bayghairats in our qaum.

lol I saw the Bee competition yesterday too. They had another word from Sansakrit ...Kundalini?? something like that lol... I forgot what does that mean?

Personally, I think its a silly idea to have spelling bee competitors asked to spell non-english words. Especially words that are from languages which are not written in roman alphabets anyway.

There can be multiple spellings for such non-English words, for example the word tanhaiyaaN can also be spelled tanhaeyaN or whatever.

I thought last night’s spelling bee was on international words or at least the last round. I caught the last 20 minutes of it and they had words from German, Sanskrit, Greek, and lord knows what other languages.
The funny thing when asked about the origin of the word Izzat - the guy said - Arabic to Hindi :hehe:
As far as I know most Indians cannot pronounce the Z in izzat. They will pronounce it as ijjat. So I would think it would be an Arabic word or Arabic to Persian…

did you see the end where the girl had to spell a word that did not even sound like it is spelled!! It was some Polish word I was in shock!! :eek:

The words that were choosen were soo ridiculous. Most difficult words were German.
