Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Yayyy! Thank you Chicken Biryani and here's my question for all you lovely ladies :

I am getting married soon, insha’Allah and will be travelling light. I have a MUA for the main events but will have many other dinner and lunch gatherings in the short time I am there. Usually, I look thru my entire "disorganized" stash and grab whatever I need, but I wont be carrying everything with me during this trip. So, this is an excuse for me to start makeup shopping :)

I'm looking forward to some help with a list of travel friendly beauty products I can use to create "long lasting" & "smudge proof" day and evening looks fit for a new bride!

Please include any multi-tasking products you know and also ones that help with touch-ups/quick fixes in case of a make-up mishap! Looking forward to hearing from you all…

MAC strobe cream or Benefit's Highbeam (highlighters)

Bobbi Brown shimmer brick, you can use the colors as eyeshadows or blush! LOVE!

L'oreal's 'eye-smoker'. No matter what color you're wearing, you can
smoke-up your look with this pencil.

Benefit's Benetint, a pretty stain that gives you a 'rosy' glow and can be used as a lip-stain.

Bobbi Brown foundation stick, provides a flawless finish!

Thank you Gina, will check those out...

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist’s Question

I was in a similar situation a few months back … and while going to pakistan , took my MAC pigments with me in smaller bottles.. and what a disasterous mistake it was  it was one hell of a task to get a quick makeup with pigments  I immediately bought the coastal scents eyeshadow kit .. and it really saved the day for me … had all the colors in one place and application was easy.

I also made sure I kept Bourjois’s red lipgloss in my purse at all times .. as a new bride i had dawats back to back and didnt have time to fix my makeup before every dawat .. so I just kept topping up my lips and pink bourjois blush … and it worked wonders …

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Yeah, I guess I'll need long lasting lip sticks/ stains, mayb 1 palette for eyeshadows (easier to carry), blotting paper, face wipes, and primer for lids, lips and face...hmm I think Ill look in the coastal scents eyeshadow kit, are they pigmented?

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

with the kind of heat in Pakistan which results in sweat and oiliness big time specially if you're outdoors, i actually carry baby powder with me and brush it on my face when it gets oily with a tissue paper..
tinted compact powder is ok for when you apply makeup initially but it can make the face look cakey if reapplied too much, but simple baby powder does the job without making it cakey and also gives you a fresk look

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

My face gets oily...I use blotting sheets because I dont like layering more powder on, but ur right about the cakey-ness...I need to find a good face primer and matte foundation.
I'll try the baby powder trick, but wont it clog pores?
I am going in Dec so the heat wont be too bad, but the dawats will be crowded.

Hi ladies. First and foremost congratulations Escapist, May Allah reward you and your husband with eternal happiness (ameen). I was in Pakistan two years ago for my wedding and it was in the dead heat of the summer. It was terrible (the heat). I of course got my wedding makeup done by an artist, but I bought a lot of stuff from here (USA). What I took:

Eyeshadow Base: This is the MOST IMPORTANT!!! I emphasize this because you will be wearing makeup a lot and you want something that will hold your eye shadows. When I got married I went to my MAC counter and asked for some suggestions and the lady recommended MAC paint. I can tell you hands down this is the best eyeshadow base, It makes your eye shadow stay put, vibrant, and your eyeshadow will NOT crease. I used it for the 6 months i was in Pakistan and my eyeshadow was brilliant! Get a nude or a color matching your eye lid and put this on as a thin layer before applying any type of eye makeup. It also prevents oil build up on your lids. You only need to use the tiniest bit, and one tube lasted me a year and a half! Totally worth it!

4 eyeshadows from MAC: off-white, red, pink, and gold colors. These I knew I would be using a lot because the would go with most of my outfits.

7 NYX cosmetics triple eye shadow palettes: These saved my wallet! They had all the colors that I needed, weren't expensive. I definitely recommend these to you because they are affordable and very well pigmented. They have a lot more pallettes out now than they did before.

6 lipsticks from different companies: pink, coral, red, nude, tanish/gold, brownish pink, and orangy colors. I felt I felt I only needed these colors because you can kind of layer them and mix to get other colors, and it really works! You can mix with your glosses/lipliners. Get some matching shades and some darker/and or lighter lip liners/glosses depending on your tastes because you can play around with the colors that way.

A couple of glosses: purple, hot pink, clear, white, light purple, pinks...

Lip liners: nude, red, pink, purple, brown. I got these a little bit off from the lipsticks because I could put a clear gloss on top of fully lined lips to make even more colors.

** Mascara**: I took MAC zoomlash, but MAC plus lash is really amazing as well, and neither are that pricey!

Eyeliner: Liquid:* Prestige* (available at drugstores) its amazing eyeliner and lasts very long!

Now to the more essential things:

Concealer: If you have spots that need covering I recommend MAC studio fix foundation, its thick for heavy coverage, or can be sheared out. It withstood the Pakistani heat amazingly!
**
Face powder**: I recommend this because you will need to set your foundation with powder to prevent it from moving around (as much). Also it will finish your looks! Try a couple and see what works for you I used MAC's loose blot powder.

Foundation: Ok so this is the biggest issue. I don't know what kind of coverage or foundation you like but I took MAC's STUDIO FIX FLUID. For about 2 weeks it was amazing, and then it changed colors because the heat broke it down.. even though I had an AC on all the time. I guess it just didn't withstand the climate. So I had to get a water based foundation that was in Pakistan and it was absolutely amazing!! So I recommend that you get your Foundation IN Pakistan because it will work better with the climate. Otherwise a great foundation is Makeup Forever's Mat Velvet+ which I am using and love! I have oily skin and this foundation is amazinggg! It matte's out my skin and is very natural, meanwhile providing me full coverage! Please try this one out, I hope you will like it.

These are just the basics and I have written like an essay for you. I didn't have anyone to help me when I was going and doing this shopping so I hope this helps you out, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!!

P.S I know you will be traveling a lot, but if you get one makeup bag, all this will fit in it. Also if you don't want to get a palette here, Pakistan has amazing eyeshadow palettes that are huge, and have really pigmented eye shadows! You can find a ton in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Karachi.

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Thanks guys, truly appreciate all the helpful responses! And Salisgirl, you gave me such a detailed list that I know exactly where I need to begin my prep. Soooo, I'll choose your answer as the winning one! :) Thanks again...

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Escapist:

Congratulations and I wish you and your husband the best of everything in your life together!First of all, I also am going to Palistan soon for my wedding, (in October....Inshallah) and was wondering if you will be there at that time? I have never been there before and will be meeting so many family members and having so many visitors as you say! Ahhhh...it is tiring just thinkg about it, but exciting as well. I know you are probablly just as happy and excited as I am. Now, before I give my makeup tricks, I would love it if you can give me just about any information available if you have been to Pakistan before, since I have not. Now, on to your question.....I have gone through this same process and narrowed down my items as follows:

1) I don't wear any facial makeup so I always use a base make up meant for applying prior to your foundation makeup. (I use Loreal, Studio Secrets)

2) Next I apply, Loreal DE-CREASE, to my eyelids. This makes sure that your eyeshadow will apply without creases and will last ALL DAY AN ALL NIGHT long.

2) Next, I do my eye brows, a good pencil sharpener is a must as well! I use a pencil first to create a line where I want my brow to be shaped, (I use L.A. Colors in dark brown), then I use my brow brush (the angled one) ( with Maybelline Ultra Brown Bruch on Color) and shape the brow. Also, applying the base under this is what will keep the color here all day and night as well!

4) Next I do my eyeliner part. I use a black pencil to line the water line (Revlon Colorstay in black) and then use KOHL in a jar. (Loreal H.I.P. high intensity pigments KOHL LINER), this comes in a small bottle about the size of a lipstick tube. I shake the bottle against my palm to adhere the kohl powder dust to the stem liner inside. Then I take the stem and starting at the tear duct, slowly pull the stem across the water line while at the same time closing your eyelid. THis will adhere to the pencil line and last all day an night as well.

5) Next I apply my eyeshaows, Maybelline's EYE STUDIO shadows are gorgeous, and also Revlon's COLORSTAY I use them both together and blend and color as desired. I like to shade, highlight, the whole thing so this takes me a little time.

6) Next I apply a very little blush to my cheeks, and by a little I really apply just a little. One stroke under my cheek bones and then blend it up and out. (I use a bronzer shade because I think it looks more like a natural blush color) They sell bronzers powders from all companies, you just have to match your skin tone.

7) last I use a red lip gloss. No lipstick, just a red gloss over my lips.

DONE!

With everything that I have mentioned, I have managed to fit this all into a make up case about the size of a small hand bag. Hmmmm....maybe 10 inches by 6 inches high. That is not very much to lug around in a suitcase across the country to look gorgeous all day and all night long without ever having to reapply!

And oh yes, since I am beginning to get laugh lines around my eyes (which I'm sure you are not...lol) but the last thing I do when I am done is apply a cream, any eye cream that has piptides or retinol in it, since they are the only ones that really do anything for these lines over time. :)

Hope this helps you out! I have done my research, let me tell you, for two months now and this is my list that I am taking with me! Good luck! Hope you find what works for you!

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Ahhh....I forgot the mascara....but I would suggest you use a long lasting water proof one. Sorry about that. Also, I absolutely can not live without my makeup remover sheets. THey are like cloth that comes in a plastic boaggy like thing,,,,,hmmm I'm not describing this too well. You know, like a pop up for wipes? The make up removers work wonders for wiping away any trace of make up that got under your eye lashed on the bottom, or on the sides next to your eyes after applying make up. I use these during the day beccause if by chance I wipe at my eye or something, and I would make a smudge mark, I can carry a few of them in a small plastic baggy in my purse and use them quickly if I am in a hurry. They work so well for everything. Especially at night when it comes time to get all this makeup off! I use one wipe an everything is gone! The next one is just for good measure! Good luck again dear! And blessings to you both!

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question

Omg Sanasaif, ur a doll! Thanks yaar, all your advice is sooo helpful! :) and I wish you all the very best and blissful married life!

I do know the sheets you are talking about! Will definitely get those...Also, Im looking for a good eye gel because after I remove all the makeup at night, the skin on my lids and eye area tends to get really dry. Same for my face, any good nightime moisturizer for oily skin...

Any reccomendations?

Btw, here is some info for anyone who likes Tarte cosmetics. I only had experience with their eyeliner and gloss, but the Day to Night eyeshadow palette looked like it would be useful for me, soooo I just ordered it AND they have a 40% off deal on their site :)

I just hope those shadows are pigmented :)

Sanasaif: Congratulations on your wedding as well!!

Escapist: Thank you for choosing my answer as the winning one! I really hope the information I gave you helps you out! As for your makeup removing wipes drying out your eyes I recommend Almay Oil-free makeup removing wipes. These come in a jar and do not dry out your eyes, or dry out in the jar. I believe there are 80 in one tiny jar, and they get the most stubborn makeup off as well, all for $6!

As far as a good oil free moisturizer Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, might be up your alley, but since I haven't tried it and just tested it, I couldn't give you a full review.

Re: The Winning Answer - Escapist's Question
