Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
Apparently no such title exists Islamically!!
now desi folks can just sit back and relax and must quit using this term to their spouses.

There is no "title" such as this, however it finds its roots in the sound hadeeth of the Prophet SAW, when he is reported to have said,
"If I were to order anyone to prostrate to other than Allah, I would have ordered the woman to prostrate to her husband. By Him in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the woman will not fulfill the rights of her Lord until she fulfills the rights of her husband...."
[Sahih, reported by Ibn Maajah and Ahmad from Abdullah ibn Awfaa]
Men usually misuse this saying of the Prophet SAW and make themselves as kings who must be respected and served no matter what they do and how they behave. No doubt women should not be disobedient to their husbands as it is a sin for them to do that as well.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
Amber as far as I know desis made up this term from the quote that requires the wife to be totally obedient to her husband and that if it wasn't prohibited by Allah than she would be ordered to do sagda to her husband.. I dunno how much is it true and just like you I have heard this term in movies etc.. the literal meaning would be "god in earthly form" or "worldly god."
I strongly believe it's an un Islamic concept because I have never come across any reference at islamic websites/books and it may have been just adapted from Hindu culture where husband's status is equal to that of bhagwan and all those hard-to-pronouce terms that we hear in the hindi movies usually.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
oh thanks.. by the time GS accepted my post, it was already explained in a better way by someone else.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
Got it...Basically just being misused or used as a Power attaining tool:)...Its just I have heard it so many times...It just doesnt make too much sense...In my opinion if it were true...then it was submission thru force..basically treating women like slaves..It would ultimately lead to Passive aggressive if not full aggressive behaviour in women....Matter of fact treatment like that would do that to anyone not just women.:)
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda…
Well we use to be Vedantists and the Sanskrit word for husband ‘Pati’ literally means ‘Lord’ and so does the Persian word ‘Khuda’ so maybe we just changed our vocabulory to Persian…
I’m guessing… I’ve also heard the term ‘Pati Prahmeshvar’ before, I might be pronouncing it wrong but I think Ishvar means Lord too… Maybe this concept has roots in that…
What is true is that in Islam a husband is considered head of the house and a protector/guardian over his wife so women are meant to obey their husbands and respect them but men are also treat their wives well because the Prophet :saw: said in a Hadith something along the lines of “the best amongst you is he who treats his wfe the best”…
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
I haven't even heard of that title. All I see is desi ladies with their husbands wrapped around their pinkies.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
^ have you seen the 70's couple? I think guys from that generation had the concept engraved in their brains!
On the topic its a fanciful stretch. Women are just suppose to respect their husbands the most in their lives.

JazakAllah....
I think Mijazi Khuda is a bollywood term.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
I haven't even heard of that title.
quite then.
Re: The whole concept of husband as a mijazi khuda...
Amber: yes quite a few husbands out there want to "own" their wives literally just to show how powerful they are and then by misinterpreting that hadith it's quite common to assume to the role of the "worldy god." oh well, to each on his own!! I believe thats how you differentiate between an abuser and someone with anger management issues which is totally understandable and curable.
PCG: I guess there is a desi term for that as well.. joru ka ghulam!
looks like we have a rich vocabulary for such relationships!!
Taloo Aftab.. thanks for more clarification.. no doubt I couldn't find any references for such term in Islamic literature.
hareem: yep that's the moral of the story.. majazi khuda is a bollywood term. :-)
Thanks everyone for contributing!
