The Wannabees

It came on last night on ARY. I thought the GEO telefilm was ridiculously filmi, so I turned it over to ARY to catch this show.

The judges were Tina Sani, Sajjad Ali, Bilal Maqsood and Ahmad Jehangzaib.

The contestants were the desis of Dubai and the award was a chance to sing in some bollywood award show or the other and to sing for some movie or the other.

At any rate, what I wanted to point out what the behavior of the judges. I dont know if any of you saw this, but I was shocked to see that Sajjad Ali and Ahmad Jehangzaib were snickering at many of the contestants - in front of their faces!

Can you imagine? And these poor desis continued to sing, not letting the behavior of the judges in front of them bring them down.

I can’t believe that Ahmad Jehangzaib and Sajjad Ali (as old as he is in the proffession and as trained as he is) were resorting to such behavior. Tina Sani and Bilal Maqsood had decency in them to keep their faces str8 when the performance was terrible.

No wonder our artists don’t get anywhere. They’re absolutely immature.

well needless to say...many of them were worth only a laugh.

well so do the american idol judges. Look how far they got!!!

...At some points, Sajjad Ali and Ahmad Jehangzaib were cracking up while the contestant was singing. How rude and ill-mannered can one be?

Sharaabi - You are right that some of them were worth only a laugh. But atleast they took out some time to contribute something. You have to give them some credit for that.

The only singer in the show I liked was the little kid who sang a song in Hindi and Arabic.

what I don't understand is why do people come to these shows to make a fool of themselves... unless you've had formal training in music - why even bother.

I thought the show was funny! the participants have too much time on their hands... besides the laughing wasn't too bad I thought, and I didn't see any Simons in the show either.

bibiji, how is this any different from amereekan idol.

I can easily ace the competition..But Nope..i won’t.. :snooty:

I agree with PCG..they were quiet rude and if they are so much inspired by american idol, they should be doing more appropriate things along with making faces at contestants..apparently, that seemed to be the only thing they learned from american idol!!

Downright pathetic!! …

I second that. PCG, how come you prejudice desi artists. Amercian Idol was worst, from your perspective, they didn’t only smirk, but humiliated and insulted in many cases. What do you say about that? They are more educated and civilized naa???

It was a OK program. Specially Ahmed Jahanzeb’s comments were to the point. Nothing unprofessional. Sajjad Ali is a chill person, he is not serious anyways, so he behaved like one. Bilal and Tina were mostly listening with their eyes closed. apna apna andaaz hota hai.

A very good production by ARY. :k:

…and some contestants were really  the girl who sang ‘kehna hi kiya’ sang the whole song beautifully.

Judges have the right to laugh/insult when a contestant doesnt even know beforehand that they r entering a singing contest and there were people who had no clue they were partciipating in a singing contest.

They were laughing because they were trying to copy Simon on American Idol, which itself is probably a copy of another show in another country.

It was alright…they had it in Pakistan last week.
Was it me or did I see Sajjad and Ahmed encouraging the girls more regardless of how awful they sang?
Oh and these Indian participants could sing! :k:

Yeah, I was appalled at the behaviour of Jahanzeb and Sajjad Ali. Snickering in the background. Jahanzeb even hid his face behind papers. What was he thinking ? The thing is that we forget from time to time but these artists sometimes have a real attitude and "holier than thou" type thing. Just because of their fame and that they make good money doesn't mean they should be behaving this way.

Tina Sani and Bilal Maqsood were so decent throughout the whole show. I was really impressed by them.

Can't wait to see the finals !

Ahmed jahanzeb should really make up his mind regarding his sexuality, ok mayb he already has mayb.

they were a lot more respectful two weeks ago in karachi but you have to admit some of these people who try out just are such bad singers...

Nothing wrong with that!
Its a mature world out there, I hope the judge’s snickering sends a clear message to every house hold and the viewer.

Any one can sing, but no one can sing like a hard working professional Singer.

Come on Amateurs!! Look closely the bar has been raised. Improve your quality or be ready for more,
tossing a ghanda anda hand-to-hand :expressionless:

Ever noticed that many singers on Intakshari are true amateurs and never had a commercial promo?? Despite it, I can say the quality is Ace.

:hehe::k:

Re: The Wannabees

Anyone trying to compete for these kinds of awards definitely deserves a laugh.

what do you all think about the results to the final "6" from the karachi auditions ?

I thought the girl Hina Iqbal was great and so was the guy with the last name Shamsi.

Fair or not fair ?

I don't know why people are trying to defend the actions of Ahmed Jahanzeb and Sajjad Ali. While I'm not master of what is polite, I do know that ridiculing someone who's prolly put themselves out on a limb, or perhaps someone who's there just for kicks, isn't polite.

I know no one wants to hear this adage but it holds:

"If the judges in American Idol were to jump off a cliff, would you have the judges on that show do the same?"

Also, that host guy in the back that was talkin to all the contestants was a bit of an ass, especially to that last one.

I'd have to agree with Umar Talib about the contestants in general, though.
