The virtues of Jumu’ah (Friday) prayer

Praise be to Allaah.

Many ahaadeeth have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which explain the virtues of Jumu’ah prayer. For example:

1 –** Muslim (233) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The five daily prayers, and from one Jumu’ah to the next, are an expiation for whatever sins come in between, so long as one does not commit any major sin.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl then comes to Jumu’ah, and prays as much as Allaah decrees for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then prays with him (the imam), will be forgiven for (his sins) between that and the next Jumu’ah and three more days.” Narrated by Muslim, 857 **

Al-Nawawi said:

The scholars said that what is meant by his being forgiven between the two Jumu’ahs and three more days is that a good deed is worth ten like it, so he will be rewarded with ten hasanahs for each of the good deeds that he did on Friday. Some of our companions said: what is meant by what is between the two Jumu’ahs is from Jumu’ah prayer and the khutbah until the same time on the following Friday, so that it will be seven days, no more and no less, then three days are added making ten in all.

**2 – Coming early to Jumu’ah brings a great reward. **

Al-Bukhaari (814) and Muslim (850) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl on Friday like ghusl for janaabah, then goes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels come to listen to the khutbah.”

**3 – If a person walks to Jumu’ah prayer, for every step he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year. **

It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl on Friday and causes (his wife) to do ghusl, and sets out early, and comes close to the imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 496; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 410

Ibn al-Qayyim said in Zaad al-Ma’aad, 1/285:

“Causes (his wife) to do ghusl” means has intercourse with his wife. This is how it was interpreted by Wakee’.

Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said, after quoting the ahaadeeth which speak of the virtues of Jumu’ah prayer:

What we have quoted, when taken all together, indicates that the expiation of sins from one Friday to the next is subject to all the conditions mentioned above being met, namely doing ghusl, cleaning oneself, putting on perfume, wearing one’s best clothes, walking in a calm and dignified manner, not stepping over people, not pushing between two people, not offending others, praying naafil prayers, listening attentively and avoiding idle speech.

And Allaah knows best.

The Excellence of Jumu’ah

**Abu Hurairah narrates that Nabi (PBUH) said: “It was Friday from which Allah diverted those who were before us. For the Jews (the day set aside for prayer) was Saturday and for the Christians, it was Sunday, and Allah turned towards us and guided us to Friday (as the day of prayer) …” (Sahih Muslim) **

Abu Hurairah narrates that Nabi (PBUH) said: " The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was created, on it he was made to enter Jannah, and on it ( Friday ) he was expelled there from." (Sahih Muslim)

**Abu Hurairah narrates that Nabi (PBUH) talked about Friday and said, " There is an hour ( when Du’aas are granted ) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while supplicating and asks something from Allah, then Allah will definetly meet his demand."
Then he (Rasulullah (PBUH)) indicated the shortness of that time with his hands. (Sahih Al-Bukhari) **

Anas Ibn Malik narrates that Nabi (PBUH) said: “Seek the time in which hope is placed ( when Du’aas are granted ) on Friday from after Asr until sunset.” (Mishkaat Al-Masabih)

Due to the grand significance of the day of Jumu’ah, Allah :swt:has made the Juma’ah salaah obligatory upon the Muslims. He commands in the Qur’aan: " O you who believe ! When the call to salaah is made on Friday, hasten towards the remembrance of Allah (Jumu’ah Khutbah A Salaah) and leave out trade (buying and selling), that is best for you if you but knew…" (Surah Al-Jumu’ah)

Rasulullah (PBUH) stated: “Jumu’ah (Friday) is the most excellent and distinguished day among the days of the week in the sight of Allah; so much so that it even excels both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha…” (Ahmad Ibn Majaah)

Imaam Ghazaali (Rahmatullahi Alaih) says: “Only that believer is graced with the blessings and benefits of Jumu’ah (Friday) who looks forward to it anxiously and eagerly, and wretched is the negligent one who is least interested in it and who does not even know in the morning what day it is.” (Ihyaa-Uloom)

Importance of going early for the Jumu’ah Salaah**
Abu Hurairah reported that Rasulullah (PBUH) said: " When Friday comes, angles take their place at the door of the Masjid and note down the names of those who come early, in order of their arrival. The person who comes at the beginning of a specified time at noon is like one who had sacrificed a camel for the pleasure of Allah. The one who comes after him is like one who had sacrificed a cow. The one who comes after him is like one who had sacrificed a ram. The one who comes after him is like one who had sacrificed a chicked. The one who comes after him is like one who had donated an egg in the path of Allah. As the Imaam proceeds towards the Mimbar to deliver the Khutbah, the angels roll up their scrolls and join (the congregation) to listen to the Khutbah." (Bukhari/Muslim)

Warning for missing the Jumu’ah Salah

Rasullullah (PBUH) said: " He who omits the Jumu’ah salaah for three Fridays (consecutively), due to negligence, Allah will seal his heart." (i.e. his heart will be deprived of all goodness and blessing). (Abou Dawood)

Death on Jumu’ah
Abdullah bin Omar reported that Rasulullah (PBUH) said: " There is no Muslim who dies on a Jumu’ah or on the night of Jumu’ah (i.e. the Thursday night) without Allah safeguarding him from the punishment of the grave." (Tirmizi)

I am not a religious scholar, therefore I would not be the right one to ask. If you have a learned person in a mosque near you, you may ask him. I just quoted the sahih ahadith, on which i believe 100%. I do not go into details like you are. What matters most to me is the jumaah itself. I do not go to jumaah for the reward but as a command to be obeyed.

mairay bhai agar mairay mohallay kay maulvi nay post kya hoata toa ussee say poochta.. aap itnay zor o shorr say post kar rahay hain so i thought maybe ask u for a clarification..
