The value of education

I can understand education for practical skills that can help society, and benefit yourself. Fields like nursing, medicine, dentistry, engineering, education…something with jobs, a career,etc. I think there’s value in it, it contributes to the economy, to your family, to society.

But I think people who major in stuff like religion, philosphy, art, even to some psychology where there’s no jobs in, is like a big waste of time. I dont; see a point of attaining that kind of knowledge. TO me u might as well just read wikipedia for that kind of knowledge, and save yourself $$ and test anxiety.

Before I start studying anything, someone taught me a prayer and the prayer is “May I be successful in my endevours, and may this knowledge be of *use *to me”.

depends on the location, art for example has application, graphic arts especially, and artists who mix art with something else, then user interfaces for websites, videogames, quite a bit of work in publications, advertising etc. not sure wikipedia can teach you everything that is needed to succeed.

and there has to be greater emphasis on proper religious education..proper theology, with a sound understanding of other religions and good exposure to physical and social sciences. The prospects may not be as financially attractive as some other fields but there is a need there, and there is a role there, if anything we as a society shortchanged ourselves and then we complain about the jahil mullahs..well, thats what you get when it is not important, if we dont see a place for it in our society and dont see it as a contributing factor and value it as such.
