The value of education

what is the value of education, a degree, a masters.a phd.

there are some who pride themselves with it, a masters is a must. and there are some who think even college is a waste of time, its all about common sense, luck and practicalaity.

my own uncle in pak says `degree karke kya karna hai, waise bi insert name of someone who has degree/masters but is working in retail kapro ki dukaan mein abhi kaam kara hai, so degree karke kya kiya…

and then theres my parents who say parhai is important, its something you will always have, money comes and goes etc etc

*IQRA. *

There's ur answer.

Re: The value of education

I think education is important. Whether its college, bachelors, or anything more than that. but at the same time, a person can have a PhD and not have manners, common sense, or any actual intellect at all. Some people, no matter how educated they are, are so ignorant, and they just make themselves look stupid.

Even if you are working in retail after you have completed your education/degree, it doesnt matter, you still have something behind you.

Re: The value of education

Education used to be important i guess… depends on the subject and how it’s taught.

The value of education has declined these days… every rock you turn has some PHD creep under it… :hehe:

Personally i would teach my kids about thier faith first… then combat/survival and street smartness skills, then i would let them loose on the government sylabus.

Is a masters in Law, different to Masters in say, english? Teaching? Accountancy?

:k: I like u more :@:

Re: The value of education

Pardon my lack of knowledge but whats IQRA? :konfused:

Re: The value of education

there are plenty of idiots in the world ... one with college degrees and those without, so lets not look at degree toting idiots to discount the value of education/degree/qualification

Iqra bismi rabbikallazi khalaq… ?

I can understand education for practical skills that can help society, and benefit yourself. Fields like nursing, medicine, dentistry, engineering, education...something with jobs, a career, etc. I think there's value in it, it contributes to the economy, to your family, to society.

But I think people who major in stuff like religion, philosphy, art, even to some psychology where there's no jobs in, is like a big waste of time. I dont; see a point of attaining that kind of knowledge. TO me u might as well just read wikipedia for that kind of knowledge, and save yourself $$ and test anxiety.

Before I start studying anything, someone taught me a prayer and the prayer is "May I be successful in my endevours, and may this knowledge be of *use *to me".

Aaaw subhan Allah and bless you.

I was assuming it was an acronym for an education organisation but now it makes sense. Thanks.

depends on the location, art for example has application, graphic arts especially, and artists who mix art with something else, then user interfaces for websites, videogames, quite a bit of work in publications, advertising etc. not sure wikipedia can teach you everything that is needed to succeed.

and there has to be greater emphasis on proper religious education..proper theology, with a sound understanding of other religions and good exposure to physical and social sciences. The prospects may not be as financially attractive as some other fields but there is a need there, and there is a role there, if anything we as a society shortchanged ourselves and then we complain about the jahil mullahs..well, thats what you get when it is not important, if we dont see a place for it in our society and dont see it as a contributing factor and value it as such.

the pir said it :k:

^ I agree.

Graphic artists can get paid really well...especially in the northern states. I have two cousins who are successful graphic designers...one of them was also the creative director in her company. The field of Arts is not known for being an immediately financially lucrative one....there are plenty of "struggling artists" out there. How much you make...and how fast and big you make it....can depend upon geographical location, being talented, having the right connections, and also what field you've specialized in. For example, graphic designers/interior designers/architects/advertisers......may struggle LESS..... than a fine artist (painter, sculptor, etc).

Regardless of what profession one belongs to (be it medicine, education, engineering)......we are by nature very visual.....we appreciate beauty in its various forms.. Society values aesthetics....which is why (despite being a difficult field)....the ARTS/ARTISTS.....are needed.

Also, apart from earning you more money....a higher degree can also sometimes bring about more practical career opportunities. Psychology is a field....where in order to do counseling or clinical practice......you'd have much better luck if you have a Masters or a PhD.
