This thread brings to mind a wonderful and entertaining book on grammar and punctuation and their correct use...and how incorrect use can completely change meaning. Its called
"Eats, Shoots and Leaves"....
the title is referring to an article about koalas who eat shoots and leaves. The comma completely changed the meaning. Grammar and puctuation can be fun.
I have the misfortune of attending an executive MBA class. 'The' was the single most spoken word, it was in EVERY sentence literally. Most of the students were like 'the Rashid has raised valild point' and the 'Javed is wrong here' .
...well I've always loved how asians add "The" to a name, especially when its added to refer to an elder person - it gives them so much more importance. ie., "THE grandfather". JUST adorable. But when "The" is added to a young idiot, its totally insulting which is just as good....the word "the" just adds so much emphasis on whatever/whoever you're discussing....yes its used oftentimes incorrectly and its over-used often. But its a good word to have around.
well Funguy saab you JUSt made my day. We are all fine, the "chic sheik" is looking forward to being able to vocalize here once again....otherwise fine and keeping busy with the "farmers" (the boys). My eldest boy LOVES to be "the sheiK" but he doesnt quite have it down yet....we put the head thing on him and tell him that he's the sheik and he runs around the house yelling "BAAAHHHHH!! BAAHHHH!!!" Thinks he's a SHEEP. My GOODness what a difference ONE letter can make, yes??!!
