**UK aid package for Pakistan
**LONDON: The United Kingdom is giving a 480 million pounds support package to Pakistan to help increase security on the Afghan border.
This was announced by UK’s International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander, who said the money would also be focused on education and health projects.
Alexander launched the plan at Glasgow Central Mosque on Friday where he met people of the Pakistani origin.
The UK wanted to “help ease the suffering of the 36 million poor people living in Pakistan,” he added.
An amount of more than 250 million pounds has been earmarked to increase training for young people and get five million children into school.
Alexander said: “We are brought together by a shared history and strong cultural and economic ties.
“We need community groups, the private sector and civil society to work together, to work with the international community, and to work with us to fight poverty through development.
“Our aim is to continue to help improve poor people’s lives in key areas, making sure they have access to better healthcare, schools and employment opportunities.”
Other plans for the money include helping reduce the incidence of diseases such as TB and polio, and assisting with earthquake reconstruction.

This is good news for Pakistan. This is also good news for UK, what a great time they chose to announce this. UK will be highlighted in the media along with Pakistan and Pakistan UK friendship will be more than the Pakistan USA friendship. This is good news and as a british citizen of pakistani origin i am very happy to hear this. Tax Payers monies are going to good causes. Let's hope Zardari does not screw up and does jack and becomes a pain in the arse.
