A couple of things that I find interesting about this topic.
Apparently Geo will claim that they are just showing whats happening in the society. So its more a chicken-and-egg discussion whether showing it causes moral degradation or whats happening is already morally sad. If the argument is that there is a better way to present it, then thats fine. But to say such things should not be discussed at all, then I have trouble with the argument. I always believe we should discuss things in an educational manner instead of letting our kids learn the wrong things from the gutter. As long as someone is not spreading gross disinformation (different opinions are ok), then it should be accepted. Maybe our closed culture needs to open up and resolve the issues in a mature manner, instead of sweeping them under the carpet and hope it will just go away.
The reference to "Yahoodi lobby" is not only stale but is quite boring. This is classic blame displacement, which is highly prevalent in our society. Blame someone else. May be the guys running the show in Geo are the bad guys, but we somehow have to bring a "yahoodi lobby" in our argument to rile up people. 99.99% the writer will have no evidence to back up the claim, but readers will read it and shake their heads "tsk, tsk .. this is so sad that yahoodi lobby is running our tv channel". I consider it more like yellow journalism.
I had Geo TV for 2 months, but then I discontinued it, simply because it has way too much news programs, and I found it boring and waste of money. I have seen parts of some of the programs mentioned in the article, but can't really comment on the specifics of the "allegations".

A valid argument. Yes our society does need to discuss such issues but maybe in a different way.
islamabad was being nice, i will be blunt, secularism is kufr, if some one believes that islam should be confined to masjid and not implemented on the entire society through shariah law, he is kafir, end of story.
so we all should check our hearts and find where we stand on this issue.

You were being blunt, you were nodding your head. Neither has a clue.
Live a righteous life as you see fit; live life eating as you fit; live life sinning as you see fit; and live life watching channels you see fit. Live life as a muslim, but dont let that right impede the rights of your neighbours as they too have a morality system wether it be religious or not.
Islam has a place in your heart and your house. Your religion is not my religion. Your god is not my god. Your islam is not my islam.
A kafir denies God, secularism only promotes God - yours and mine.
wrong, Allah is my God and He IS your God, and the God of the universe, you may not accept him yet, but in the day of judgement, you surely will proclaim that O Allah you are indeed my God.
remember that...
any how, islam is not just a private affair, it governs an entire society and that is what had been happening during the khalifat. although there were individual khalifas who were not religiously upright, the government still implemented islamic law. and that is what we should acheive for, implementation of islamic law. i am not part of HT or any other party, but i would like to see a genuine govt. that implements islamic law to the fullest and taliban were the closest we had in such a long time. chechnya is now on the horizon with the best hopes of implementing islam in the near future, inshallah. may allah bless us all with true knowledge of deen.
it seems like you've been brought up a muslim and have failed to question the religion yourself. it's disheartening when ideologies are imposed and produce ignorant mentalities like yours.
live as you want, but the moment you tell me my faith is something it's not i'm entitled to invade your life just like you have mine.
show compassion for other ideas, it'll only make you a better person.

i guess you judged wrong. yes i had been bought a muslim, but i did question my beliefs. and it was only though allah's help that i found answers to my questions. and now once i have found them after personaly struggling with problems over my religious beliefs, i want allah's help in standing firm in them, and may allah guide me through all these times of tribulation.
i may be considered ignorant from secular point of view because i see no use of reason or logic against the revelation. I believe that logic is supplemented by revelation and not the other way around. revelation is independent of and superior to logic and that is the belief of islam, and i am proud to accept it.
you or i dont own islam, and thus you cant claim to be a muslim and feel free to disbelieve in basic parts of islam. if some one denies the obligation of sharia law, he surrenders his right to claim to be a muslim, and it goes on for all the major parts of islam such as salat, zakat, saum, hajj, jihad and sunnah. so it is either we are completely in islam or we are out, there is no crap about religion being private affairs and open to pick and choose from people. if someone does not like something in islam, he gotta reject the entire package otherwise its useless. and its not me who says that. its allah him self...
O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islâm (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islâmic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitân. Verily! He is to you a plain enemy (Al-Baqarah 2:208)
why cant pakistan be home to hindus, buddhists, jews and christians? why must islam be the fundamental religion? the only religion? the only "way"? my thesis has remained pakistan should open up to differences.
pakistan can be home to hindus, budhists, christians and jews. true muslims do not force any one to be muslim. and we allow people to practice their faith as they like..AS LONG AS they do not interfere in islamic affairs. when qadayanis call them muslims, they are expected to follow the islamic doctrine of finality of prophethood, and if they dont, then we have trouble with them calling themselves muslims. if hindus do not burn the widow of the deceased as "religious" ceremony, we allow them to follow their faith and so on. however, islamic laws require government to end the obsecnity that is rampant in the society. that is good in every religion. christians have nuns covering their heads, and orthodox jewish women covering their hairs as well. so its in their religion to not show off flesh of women and all... i am sure all religion look down upon ills of society and if islam prevents them from being openly done, then it is not acting against any religion.
got my point?
however, there is no compromise on the belief of mine that islam IS the only WAY and the only true religion, for if i were to compromise on that, then i might aswell start preparing for an everlasting life in hell...may allah save us all from that.

Its not for you to decide whether they have a home or not, they have been here longer then Muslims, if anyone has a right to be there it is they. They are Pakistans foremost citizens and they deserve that distinction. They are the ones who live there despite all the problems they face. The so called majority gets so much as a prick and they up and leave or threaten to start some kind of revolt.
Its fine that you have your opinion, but Pakistani govt cannot take sides in the matter of religion which it is doing to this day... It discriminates against minroites religious groups and generally sides with Sunni and sometimes Shia. Pak govt must always stay impartial, which it doesnt sadly, all flying in the face of Jinnah's concept of Pakistan. Its a perfect example of why religiou and politic/governance should never mix in the modern world.
