Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

we had our Thanksgiving on October 11 and i was in India. I and my family had a Turkey sandwich from Subway to keep the Canadian tradition alive. The Subway store had opened in my town, Allahabad, only a couple of days earlier so the taste of turkey sandwich was the first for my family members there. :)

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Going to a couple of potlucks this weekend/week, and will be in canada on actual thanksgiving..will def post!

I want to be your neighbour just so you can invite me over for thanksgiving!

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

I am going to a Friendsgiving this weekend so will post a picture when I go!

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

This year, my husband is insisting we try to cook a turkey. He picked one up this past weekend...I am scurrrrrred.

^ I would assume it's about the same as roasting a chicken. But, more time.

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Turkey meat is dryer than chicken , so you have to prepare gravy as a side with turkey

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Yeah - gravy is a must for sure. I'll be using drippings to make gravy as soon as its done.

What are some favorite sides for people here?

I am thinking:

Brussel Sprouts
Mashed potatoes
Biscuits
Stuffing
Salad
(I want to do macaroni and cheese but am afraid I'll be the only one eating it since he doesn't care for pasta)

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

I just added “faux mashed potatoes” aka cauliflower mash for those of us on low carb diets

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

we always buy butterball turkey because constant basting with butter is then not needed. whole/jellied cranberry along with gravy goes well with roasted turkey.

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

I need easy table decor ideas.
Get to it all you creative beasts you. :)

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Please post a tried tested recipe for green bean casserole and mashed potatoes.

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Martha Stewart's green bean casserole recipe is the best...none of that gross canned and condensed soup in it! Google it. Your taste buds will thank you. Mashed potatoes are the easiest think ever...peel and quarter potatoes...boil until tender...drain..return back to the pot and let the sit on a very low heat for second to dry out any remaining moisture. Mash up coarsely with a potato masher then add generous amounts of butter and heated milk (or half n half). Keep mashing, add your milk slowly until you get the consistency you want. Season well with salt and black pepper.

Thank you KC :flower2:

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

I am thinking about this for inviting some family over:

Cajun Fried Turkey
Roasted Herb Chicken x3
Cracker stuffing (recipe from food wishes)
Gravy
Cranberry Sauce
Mac and cheese
Steamed corn
Collard greens
Dinner rolls or biscuits
Pecan pie
Key lime pie

any suggestions?

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

^ do any of you use turkey bags for making the turkey? I heard it keeps the bird moist and no need for basting.

also, a coworker of mine suggested using basmati rice as the stuffing since i'm desi :). has anyone tried that?

Re: The Thanksgiving Thread

Hi what recipe should I follow if I m frying regular whole chicken. Just the Cajun seasoning? Please help.
