the test of a batsman....

this is what is called a test for a real batsman…
put in such a situation where the team is struggling at 99/5 with a 261 required, and a batsman makes a 130+ to get the total required…
thats more than half the score…
and that too in a chase with tailenders on the other end…
how u manage the tail-enders, how u keep ur head cool and not go for any rash shots…
just to take those singles to maintain the strike and hit the real bad balls for a four…

although it was a poor bowling attack (bangladesh) but they did have 5 top-order batsmen down and the tail-enders (all of them) have almost never made it to the double figures, yet there was this strong character (physically and mentallly) who just drove the team to victory (a huge relief i tell ya)…

something only a true batsman can do :k:

Yes it's true that only a very few players can win a match single-handedly, and Inzimam, even though he is a flawed genius is one of them. I wouldn't downgrade this effort coz it was against BD either. There was plenty of life in the pitch and they looked far more dangerous than England's bowlers at Headingly and I saw both games. Winning a match and putting on 100 runs with tail enders is a pretty special achievement. Well done big guy.

It was a real special effort, not only becase he was under pressure after teh run out of Younis Khan and his own recent poor form but also the team situation was dire. To stroke his way out of such trouble and take Pakistan to victory was just tremendous.

I think the most brilliant moment for those watching live was when Yasir Ali came into bat and looked shaky and on the fifth ball Inzi took a single to get Yasir off the strike. This was confidence because Inzi either had to take a single off the lat ball to retain the strike and keep Yasir away or hit a boundary to win the match, which he did. That was class.

Agreed ehsan. I think plenty of batsmen would have had trouble keeping hold of the bat at such a tense moment but Inzi commanded a single then smashed the boundary with one ball left. I don't think Yasir would have survived the next over by Rafique so that's what you call taking charge of the situation when it came to the crunch.

:hehe:
ehsan yaar thread ka sara mazaa kharab kar diya…

see this was a good example for ppl who wish to see a match-winning innings…
lately i had been hearing from ppl that inzi has never produced such an innings…
and i just hope those people dont undermine his efforts just because it came against bangladesh…
BD had almost had their first ever test victory if inzi had not stood up…

Inzamam did this second time, once in a match against Australia

I really thot that its gonna be BD's first test win, but I'm relieved that Inzi took the charge and saved the game.

The Game Responds:

*That series winning innings against Australia at Karachi was class. Do you guys also remember the hundred he made against Sri Lanka in a South African triangular tournament when Pakistan had to chase 296 to win? And I don't think anyone has forgotten the innings in the 1992 Semi Final. The guy is a match winner on his day, unlike some other overrated pansies across the border. Really. People, That Is All.*

this innings was a pie in the face for people who said he was finished. he played a gem of an innings and i'm sure ev one is very happy for him. even earlier i don think he shd have dropped after the world cup, or atleast he sdn't have been dropped for such a long time. newayz he's rite when he says he's still got 4,5 yrs in him . he's still not that old..

Inzamam is a definetly a class player, no doubt about it :k: But currently he has been going through a rough phase, but I really hope this match winning centuary really boosts his confidence and he can play like his old self, which we will need if we want to have any chance of winning against SA.

oh yeah i remember that. He blasted Murali for four to five sixes and to date that match represents Pakistan’s best chase in Oneday internationals. Gem of an inning that was :k:

Inzamam hungry again](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Inzamam hungry again)

Inzamam-ul-Haq has put his nightmarish performance in the World Cup to the back of his mind as he makes a belated return to the Pakistan side.

For the rebuilding team I want to transfer my skills to the youngsters

The 33-year-old from Multan, Pakistan’s City of Saints, managed a feeble 19 runs in six matches in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

But now he is preparing for what should be an easy re-introduction to international cricket with a home series against Bangladesh.

After a four-month lay-off, he is keen to get cracking again.

"I have come over the World Cup fiasco, which is exactly what it was for both me and the team.

“But I feel bad times are made for better times to follow and I am back at the crease,” Inzamam told this website.

“Even now I can’t make out what happened to me in the World Cup. It was sheer bad touch and never in my career had I encountered such difficult times.”

But one thing he has ruled out already.

Shedding 22 pounds from his distinctive burly physique had not thrown his stance out of balance, he insists.

Pakistan’s selectors ditched Inzamam and seven other players from the team following the early World Cup exit.

But Inzamam never felt his career was over.

"I never felt threatened, never thought of leaving cricket. I am lucky in the sense that I got support from Imran Khan and Wasim Akram who both advised me to play my way out of trouble.

“When a cricketer is out of favour people treat him differently but I got calls from all over the country and fans even mailed me from England saying they missed me.”

Young all-rounder Hafeez is highly rated by Inzamam

The Pakistani selectors initially claimed Inzamam was merely being rested.

But pundits were astonished the country’s top run-getter in one-day history was left out of the squad for the NatWest Challenge in England in June.

“Inzamam has a lot of cricket left in him and Pakistan could have won in England with him in the team,” said Imran.

It was under Imran’s captaincy that Inzamam burst onto the international scene during Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup win.

But the man whose last Test innings resulted in an epic 329 against New Zealand last year, refuses to be drawn on the controversy.

“What is really important for me is that I have regained my place and I want to play as long as I am fit and performing.”

So what is left to achieve after playing 95 Tests and 290 one-dayers?

“My personal aim is to make 10,000 runs in both forms of the game and for the rebuilding team I want to transfer my skills to the youngsters.”

Inzamam believes Pakistan has a large pool of gifted players.

“We have no dearth of talent and new players like Mohammad Hafeez and Yasir Hameed have tremendous potential.”

“Pakistan cricket has a bright future and once the rebuilding is done our team will be a force to reckon with whether we seniors remain part of it or not.”

Now this is the kind of inning I was talking about …even better…
