The Ten Commandments

“I am the Lord thy God… Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

“And God spoke all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Ex. 20, 1-3.

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images… Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them.”

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.” Ex. 20, 4-6.

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Ex. 20, 7.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle. nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Ex. 20, 8-1 1.

“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long.”

“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Ex. 20, 12.

**“Thou shalt not kill.” Ex. 20, 13.
**

“Thou shalt not commit adultery” Ex. 20, 14.

“Thou shalt not steal.” Ex. 20, 15.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Ex. 20, 16.

“Thou shalt not covet they neighbor’s house.”

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, not his manservant, not his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.” Ex. 20, 17.

So, whats the point that you want to make? or, is it just for our information?

not a good idea.

back to the post…

Here is an emotion attributed to God. Does the Quran mention any such attributes of God?

Christians believe in these Ten Commandments. Yet as far as I can see they have broken the first two.

The Jewish version uses Hashem instead of God. Does Hashem translate to God or is Hashem the name of God?

The term HaShem literally means "The Name". It's used by Jews to refer to God as a substitute for the actual Name of God given to Moses as the Jewish law forbids the pronunciation of God's Name. In written works the term is usually used to substitute for the Tetragrammon.

did a little research... the name received by Moses is JHWH. It is usually pronounced as Yahweh or Jehovah. Tertragrammon which is greek for four letters is used to refer the name.

How is that?

Your statement is technically wrong, since, it cannot be applied to Muslims. The shariah of previous prophets became invalid when Hazrat Muhammad (saw) came.

Those Muslims who have committed bad deeds are responosible for themselves!

OPh Shah now don't play the innocent. Sentinel is not the only who understood what you emphasized on...If you post something then have the guts to confess it.

Believing and practicing are two different things.

Tell me what you understand by the first commandment and why you feel you are practicing it.

As to answer "Fact Finder", I am new here, so I hope I am replying appropriate. Here is my response to your question.

"And it shall be, if thou d at all forget the Lord, thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish."

"As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish, because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the Lord your God."

Deuteronomy 8:19, 8:20

This is certainly reason enough to be obedient to The First Commandment.

Hope this answers your question.

I'm christian too ;)

How do then Christians claim that Jesus Christ is the son of god? If you worship Jesus Christ, would it not mean that you are taking other gods for worship?
