So until 2 years ago, my dental appointments were a smooth sailing, no issues, just regular cleanings, and I would return home with a toothbrush and toothpaste sample in hand. Sometimes some floss and mouthwash.
But all of a sudden I was told that I had these budding cavities, and due to insurance changes, my dentist said I could wait to get them filled as there was no urgent need.
However, during that wait period, I ended up getting some serious issues that required immediate attention. That very month I was all set to travel to India in vacation, and my dad, who is medical director at a dental institution advised I get my dental work done right at his workplace, for no cost.
So off to India I went, and during my 7 week stay, I had all my work done in 4 weeks, very conveniently indeed.
A month after I got back, one of my teeth broke as the smarty pants dentist did not put a cap on my root canaled tooth, so I ended up spending $1000 on the procedure to have that fixed . And at my last dental visit 2 months ago, x-rays revealed that material used to fill all my cavities was not only poor grade but also ready to pop out .
Today, I had a 2 hour long appointment to have one side of my cavities replaced. Right now the right side of my face is numb from my eyes down to my chin and according to my daughter I looked “crooked”. She keep crying because she thinks her mommy is sick "
My next appointment is next Thursday.
The moral of the story is:
Please NEVER delay dental appointments. Always nip the problem in the bud.
He insisted that I didn't need it, that he has shaped my tooth well and all that. You know desis in India, they will try to get out of doing any extra work. My dad got after him to put on a cap, and we were ready to pay for it as well, but at the end, it was his decision.
You are so right! I had a very bad experience with a dentist in Pak. All he had to was do a filling and he didnt put in the appropriate stuff. I ended up getting an infection.
I also would know about nipping dental problems in the bud I delayed on getting a root canal and i cannot even describe how much pain i was in for a week, even after getting the root out. I pray no one has to go through that much pain ever
Actually my root canal tooth wasn't capped here in teh USA by a dentist who was in the top dentists of America book. I had to have that tooth pulled out. So its not only dentists back home!!
No, I haven't had a bridge done yet. Part of my tooth is still imbedded inside, as the dentsist said its very hard to remove a tooth which has had a root canal procedure done on it. The dentist couldn't push too hard to remove the imbedded part as the sinus is just above it, so basiaclly if it starts hurting, I shall need surgery to get the rest removed. Its been a while now and the imbedded part hasn't hurt yet so maybe I will get the bridge done one day.
So I’ve had all my dental work done now. ALl old fillings have been replaced by these neat new ones.
However, I’m in so much pain, especially after I eat. I was warned about sensitivity to extreme temps but I don’t think it was supposed to be so bad . I will call my dentist today but do you guys have any experience in this area?
