the story of india

Hi all - just wanted to give a shout out to fellow history lovers. I watched the first 2 episodes of the PBS documentary The Story of India yesterday (The Story of India | PBS) and I’m hooked.

It’s a fascinating account on the history of the subcontinent. I think the name is a bit of a misnomer because it covers places in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well - our shared history. The first couple of episodes take you through the Indus valley civilization to the reign of Emperor Ashoka. It put a lot of things into context for me - especially the timelines of the various rulers, and the rise and fall of our ancient cities.

I’m planning to finish watching it this weekend. It’s on Netflix instant streaming if you’re in the US.

Have you read the book ‘The discovery of India’ written by Jawahar Laal Nehru? DoorDarshan also made a series on this with the name ‘Bharata ek Khoj’
