The stink ...

Re: The stink ...

Light a candle just before you begin cooking, then leave it on for a little while once you have finished cooking the fish. No smells :)

Re: The stink …

Ok so I cooked 5 dishes over the weekend , in a hope that all the new khana smell with kill the fish stink , I left out vinegar bottle open, used the airfreshners , incense sticks all over the home, used the fan .. … and its still there :crying:

Other then the promise , that i will never make fish again .. and considering that the mausam is really cold these days , and I will probably freeze to death if I open the doors and the windows … what options am I left with?

I am going to try Reha’s orange peel and cinnamon too this weekend …

Re: The stink ...

Put a bowl of vinegar at different spots in your home. That should do it!

Re: The stink ...

nothing'll help. all the soft surfaces (curtains, sofa fabric etc) that were exposed to the odor have adsorbed the smell on them. wait it out, or change everything.

and next time, have your exhaust on full blast, close your kitchen door etc. when you are frying fish. an ounce of prevention yada yada yada..

trust me, this is my domain. i cook loads of sardines and herring every week. you can't fight this thing.

Re: The stink ...

^The boiling cinnamon in water thing definitely works. I have had sofas smelling like Bhindi ka salan & then boiling water took it all away without giving it any other smell.

CB I think you should give it a try.

Re: The stink …

Re: The stink ...

I tried out the cinnamon and orange peel in boiling water trick and it really works!

First I tried it out in my flat. I usually have the extractor on full and keep the kitchen door closed, and it seems fine at the time but if we go out and enter the flat again later, you can smell whatever. Not with this!

So, I told my mum and she's been really happy with as well. On friday's she cooks a lot of food at the mosque that gets sold after jummah to raise money and the smell gets into all her clothes. She said this week, she barely noticed it when she sat in the car to come home. The couple that help her out were really pleased as well.

Much preferable to scented candles imo - which are only nice when the room is fresh anyway. I always light a candle at the same time or after, opening all the windows and airing the room.
