The steam factor ..

I am on the look out for some budget friendly steam cleaner that comes with ample tools to do various things like clean the upholstery, do the carpets , do the mattress etc ..

I have seen a few demonstrations at the local shops as well . The question that keeps popping in my head is how does steam take out the dirt from heavily soiled carpet areas like the stairs ?

Steam breaks down the dirt , understood, but unless there is something that will suck the moisture out of that carpet along with the dirt, the dirt will stay back in there? am I right in thinking so?

I am sick and tired of struggling with my carpet cleaner when its time to do the stairs , coz its so big and heavy and difficult to manage. People highly recommend steam cleaning , I am not sure how much the steam will help me keep the stair case carpet clean.. any advice?

Re: The steam factor ..

While I can’t advise which model you should go for as it depends on your budget, I’d recommend purchasing from Argos (using their reviews which usually given an accurate idea of how good the product is) and also buying their 3-year replacement cover.. we have this for all our small appliances and it’s been essential for things like kettles and irons which don’t last long in the family home.

They will keep your carpet looking and feeling cleaner and fresher. What we usually do is apply some pressure to the area with a towel as you are going along and it absorbs the soiled moisture. For a more thorough clean, you would have to hire the professional carpet clear (once a year?) as this sucks back the liquid. If you’ve ever watched ‘How clean is your house’ you’ll have seen how effective they are on even the filthiest carpets.

Thanks Stoppit, yes the sucking back of moisture of is exactly what my concern is .. I know professional cleaners do that , they have good machinery to do that.

I am wondering if a good steam up followed by the carpet cleaner sucking out the moisture is a good deal? but i will still have to put in all my strength :hinna:

I like the towel idea.. but i still feel it wont absorb the dirt trapped in there :hmmm:

Re: The steam factor ..

No, it won’t, but it will be enough to freshen them up and make them feel cleaner. It works for between professional cleans. Or just hire that equipment every six months instead of once a year (that’s what I mean, not hire a professional person).
