Anyone used this?
Been playing with one for the last few days. Love the screen, resolution, camera. Don’t like the ports as they have covers (for the waterproofing), but all in all, seems like a lovely phone.

Looks like TLK forgot to lock the room again :p
What do you mean by covers? All phones have them (the ones you can use your fingers to pry open) and I think that it is a good idea since junk can get in if you put your phone in your pocket with other things. As for sony, i don't like their 'lock down' policies regarding drivers in Windows laptops, but hopefully they didn't put a lot of junk apps on their phones.
I am kind of souring on android as there is that update issue, where depending upon the manufacture's desire to continue the line, you stop getting OS updates in less than an year after getting the device. Nexus is like getting an iPhone (no sd card etc) so I rather get the more easier to use OS and with more useful apps (at least for me) iPhone.

You could get the Google play Samsung galaxy S4 where you could get the sdcard and the updates from Google......
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Isn't it basically a Samsung phone with updates through the carriers? Even though I like the size of my Note, it still has a lot of junk AT&T apps (the wifi smart assistant even screwed up the WiFi connection at work!) that I have to disable each time that there is an update. Even though I have the 4.1.2 update, it still isn't the latest JB update. This phone is less than an year old and with apple, I would definitely be receiving all their updates as even iPhone 4 got the iOS 7 update. This fragmentation of Android is also the reason that Android is so susceptible to malware compared to other OS'es.
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Xperia Z is a great phone, i have one, i love the build quality and the design, but the display isnt as great as the one in Galaxy S4, there is a new updated version called Xperia Z1 with the same design but better Display and Camera. And also there will be Nexus 5 coming this month or early next month, nothing can beat the nexus series when it comes to clean and pure android.

This S4 in the Google play store is from Google so no carrier in the middle. Its just like a nexus but better...

No, for the google edition phones, their respective manufactures are in charge for updates, but its much faster than their normal phones, normally within a week after nexus series. Am running Google Edition ROM on my S4, will ditch S4 for Nexus 5 (when it launches next week)
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Howdy Aaliyah?
So after using it for a few days now, I think I’ll stick to the Galaxy babies.
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Sorry man. I dont see anything on the google play store that tells me that google is sending the updates to the carrier who will then send it to the phones…
“Google Play edition.
The latest in Android.
The Google Play edition phones automatically receive updates of the latest Android software. Optimized for the latest apps, more storage for your content and a fast, clean user experience all come standard.
Google Maps, Chrome, YouTube, Gmail – it’s all just there.
Never get lost, surf the web, stream videos and stay on top of your inbox. The Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition comes with the best Google apps pre-installed, so it’s ready to use right out of the box.
Apps, games, music and more.
The Galaxy S 4 includes Google Play, your one-stop-shop for digital entertainment. With over 975,000 apps and games – plus music, movies and more – keep your favorite digital entertainment in your pocket and always at your fingertips.”
EDIT: I read your post again and it seems like you are talking about manufacturer. I was talking about the phone carrier like ATT and t-mobile. Dont know if thats what you meant.
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Google Edition (or Google Experience) phones are unlocked and carrier independent, so the update should be directly from Google, but in the case of S4 and HTC One, google doesnt have the drivers/blobs to release a AOSP ROM, so their respective manufactures build the kernel and release the update.
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
First Apple, then Samsung and now Sony
Koi brand loyalty jaisi cheez ka toh pata hee nahi hai aap ko ![]()
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
It’s Samsung all the way! The others are just playthings.
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
enjoy the malware ! ;)
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
I'm loving it! :D
Re: The Sony Xperia Z
Niksik, those plugs are like earplugs when we go in the pool. That way things that shouldn't get water don't. Its the same with S4 Active. But you knew that anyway.
I love my S4 with the GPE firmware. I'm using the VirginROM on it. Anyone else tried that? Great battery life. They just came out with the KitKat version.
