Hong Kong flu of 1968**, also called Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968, global outbreak of influenza that **originated in China in July 1968 **and lasted until 1969–70. The outbreak was the third influenza pandemic to occur in the 20th century; it followed the Asian flu pandemic of 1957 and the influenza pandemic of 1918–19 (also called Spanish flu). The Hong Kong flu resulted in an estimated one million to four million deaths, far fewer than the 1918–19 pandemic, which caused between 25 million and 50 million deaths.
The 1968 pandemic was initiated by the emergence of a virus known as influenza A subtype H3N2 (also called Hong Kong flu virus). It is suspected that this virus evolved from the strain of influenza that caused the 1957 pandemic. The 1957 Asian flu virus, or influenza A subtype H2N2, is believed to have given rise to H3N2 through a process called antigenic shift, in which the hemagglutinin (H) antigen (a substance that stimulates an immune response) on the outer surface of the virus underwent genetic mutation to produce the new H3 antigen. Because the new virus retained the neuraminidase (N) antigen N2, persons who had been exposed to the 1957 virus apparently retained immune protection against the 1968 virus. This would explain the mildness of the 1968 outbreak relative to the pandemic of 1918–19.
I passed through 2 major international airports recently and one thing is certain. So many people around the world are now wearing face masks and going about their lives. It will surely make western people more understanding toward Muslim women who wear face veils. Strange thought but that is one positive aspect of this pandemic. Otherwise there was so much propaganda in Western media and even laws such as in France, Belgium, Austria, The Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, etc. against it. Those places may not rollback the law, but places such as Bulgaria,Germany, Spain, Russia and Italy which are almost there to ban face veils may not go ahead now.

^^^Haha, that is so funny. Now if someone wants to avoid shaking hands, they know the protocol too. I think the generation alive today will not forget the social distancing protocols in their lifetime.
The reason I think (and hope) there will be greater social acceptability in West for face veils now is because of the busting of the propaganda surrounding it, as so many people of the upper class in society(they are important as rest look up to them), those who are unbiased at least, are experiencing putting on such a veil on their faces for the first time and going about their life, communicating freely, protecting their face from pollution and germs, etc. They are experiencing, it is not an affront to their social values after all, it does not diminish their personality in any way, they are still the same person who they are without it. It’s a lot like Wear a Hijab day in which students on a campus learn by experiencing a hijab, except this one is on a global scale. It is one thing reading about something, quite another experiencing it.

Does that mean those of us who experienced COVID 19 and survived might be immune to another Coronavirus if it were to mutate and come back with a vengeance?
For people celebrating the idea that an opressive tradition of forcing women to cover faces is more acceptable they should also understand that celebrating a human catastrophe is not a good thing and also Hajj, Umrah, Jumma is cancelled and this virus will kill regardless of faith.
