The silly things that they do

I know we have had a couple of threads about ‘silly things that children say’ but not sure about silly things that they do. If so, please merge.

Today a child in my class decided to put his finger in a pencil sharpner and sharpen it. He wasnt that badly injured, but managed to chop part of his nail off and peel some of his skin off too.

He wanted to know if it would get as pointy as a pencil.

Yeh, I know. Silliness.

This other child, also a boy, likes to eat stones, little mini stones like gravel. His mum thinks it’s funny, I think it’s worrying.

Share away…

Few weeks into "big" school, my 5 year old daughter was writing her homework, all by herself. I checked in on her and was pleased to see she had covered nearly half a page. Few minutes later, I saw her furiously rubbing it all.

"why are you rubbing it out. There was no mistake."
" they said in school that I had to start with the date, so I have to rub it out and write the date and do it again"

Instead of just adding the date above her work (and there was enough space), she set about re-doing everything simply because the teacher said you have to start by writing the date!!

Re: The silly things that they do

CUTE!

I wish my lot would remember what I told them to do.

I don't give my children rubbers...no room for mistakes. Harsh I know, but if they make a mistake, they simply put a neat line through it and start again. School books are quite cheap in quality and they tear the pages so no rubbing out.

Re: The silly things that they do

eek your kid was stupid

:phati: when i kid i wanted to see if what happens if i jump off with my tricycle from a place 2 feet higher than the ground.I the stunt and i fell down and then i cried:phati:

also when i was kid ,i used to dip tea bags in water and used to leave them to only find out water was gone .i knew the water evaporated but i used to do it often

Re: The silly things that they do

eeee you were pretty silly too Pingu!

One of my sisters swallowed a 1p coin when she was younger, as she wanted to know if it tasted like chocolate!

My mom tells me when I was little, I used to eat ants! LOL....yep...she says we had a ant problem in the house (this was back home), and whenever I would see an ant, I'd just pick it up and put it in my mouth really quickly!

ouch! that hurt me just reading it!

When my daughter was 4 she put pine nuts in her nose; when I finally got them out I asked her what were you thinking silly? And she said I was just checking that I can eat from mouth or not.She was almost 3 at that time.

I did that too :hehe: And same with a stapler and got badly injured.

I was 10 when I did that with the stapler :smack:

Re: The silly things that they do

My cousins chew on paper lol
Who knows why they do what they do, the little freaks :p Love them anyway! haha

Re: The silly things that they do

My cousin always has to 'drink' her juice with a spoon..........its ridiculous, she gets nowhere because half of it spills on the way up to her mouth...........she's so serious when she's doing it too!

That's a symptom for anemia or mineral dificiency i think. Check out what 'pica' is..my cousins used to eat paper aswell! One of my cousins in Pakistan used to lick the plaster off the walls and if anyone asked where he was all we had to do was look behind a curtain and he'd be stuck to the wall licking it like a goat! LOL

Re: The silly things that they do

munchkin loves a routine... and she has these silly habits and i knwo they are from me..

as a kid i used to say "khuda hafiz" to all my teddies.. if i left one out, id feel sooo guilty id get up and go through the process again..

so like mother like daughter... munchkin is wierd on another level altogether..

when she comes into her room at night, she has to come in a certain way, closes her door.. walk to her bed and get up in a certain way.. like i think Goofy goes on first, then she does... so for watever reason something gets interupted... she goes alllll the way to the beginning and starts again.. at first i thought it was extremely odd... now, i know where she gets it from, im ok...

but yeah, its not just with the going to bed thing... its going to the shower... going to the toilet.. getting into the car... its all done in a certain way

Re: The silly things that they do

^^she seems to be a sequential learner...sequence/steps are extremely important for her...

Re: The silly things that they do

My 2 years old nephew often does things one can NEVER imagine. Once he was drinking a glass of mango juice, suddenly he grabbed the mobile phone of her mom (which was placed near the glass) and threw it in his glass of juice. I feel he was already had something going on in his mind that's why he didn't take a second to perform such kind of disastrous thing :s

Awsum thread !! :rotfl:

My sister used to eat mitti when she was lil , my mum once told me …
