The sheesha phenomenon

Had a convo with my dad last night and asked him whether or not sheesha was haram. He said 'it is just like smoking and smoking is haram, so therefore it is." Now, I know allot of my female friends who smoke sheesha and I’ve personally never touched the stuff, nor do I intend to. I wanted to find out more, so after googling sheesha I’ve found many websites saying that it is haram as it harms your body, so why do soooo many youngesters smoke it. Is it right that it is soo widely available?
The prophet (pbuh) has said that alcohol will one day be drunk in great quantities, because it will be called by another name.

Thoughts?

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

Being alive in this day and age is haram.

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

I think it is,it does contain small amounts of tobacco, even if it doesnt, its an addicitve habit, and anything addictive is not good. people go from doing it once a week, to once a day, and then more. dont know too much about the contents, however from what ive heard it does contain tobacco, and to be honest you dont really know what it contains...if people say oh its only fruit flavourd powder tell them to shut up and go eat an apple then, is eating an apple addictive? if its only fruit flavours you are smoking, why is it such a big deal to get together and do it on a daily basis for some people.

The habit is wrong, it becomes like a drug, people need it, not good. whats absurd is the these men/boys doing it, and saying theres nothing wrong with it, its not the same as smoking ciggerattesand then you say oh ok can i do it then? and they say no.....why...because it looks bad if girls do it, or what?. If its perfectly accpetble, why would some/most of our parents have issues with it?

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

It is haram. There was also a study that the BBC done that showed sheesha is even more harmful than cigarettes (i don't really believe that) but sheesha is harmful hence why it's technically haram - i think youngsters think that people in saudia arabia do it and they're more religious so it makes it alright..?

sheesha is haram? wow! how are we passing such sweeping religious judgements .... on what basis?

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

cupcake-what bbc programme, i didnt watch it, sounds interesting.

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

Its really bad for your health… I don’t know why its considered acceptable to smoke Shisha by most people… my husband threw a fit when he found out his sister had tried it and it is definitely not free of tobacco or has less tobacco, in fact its equivalent to smoking 7-10 cigarettes at a time.

Medical experts have warned that shisha has a more perilous impact on health compared to cigarette smoking. They say most shisha smokers have a misconception based on a wrongful and unscientific notion that tobacco used in shisha is herbal and does not affect body organs.

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

Its not intoxicating so not haram.

Quran says “the things which take you towards destruction, avoid them”

Parents know open your self to such option can lead to other things. So they will stop you with what ever it takes.

Kids smoke it, because of peer pressure. Chicks think they hit a new level of koolness smoking it.

Its freaking HUQA for crying out loud!!!

some one close the thread now :snooty:

:k:

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

It's easier for your dad to tell you that it's haram than explaining why you shouldn't smoke it. (Even Though you don't really want to smoke it, yeah?) How typical...

Why aren't cigarettes haram? Why isn't Pan haram? Why isn't desi food, which is high in cholesterol haram?

Quran is not 23 volumes listing of haram and halal.

there is obvious things mentioned in it, even non muslim parents wont be comfortable their kids smoking sheeha and being in that place where its being smoken.

About unhealthy food you can just yours your brain, If not then remember prophet never went for high cholesterol food, his diet was simple and stuff.

its common sense, which god gave us to know ourselves what is haram and halal. think of it this way, if it cant be halal, then why take it? rather than thinking oh its not haram, so its ok, we should actually be thinking is this halal.....and if you think that sheesha/cigarettes is HALAL then good for u....!

i doubt youll find references to a mcdonalds double cheeseburger in the holy book....

That's not the point, duh.

The point is, when people think that they can label certain things as haram because they are unhealthy. Why don't they also label other unhealthy things that they consume on a daily basis as haram? One of them being desi food. Cherry-picking much? Where is their "common sense" then?

The point is, look at it from a different perspective. IS IT HALAL...rather than WELL IT ISNT EXACTLY HARAM......kinda thinking.

no one ( hardly) eats enough burgers in aday thatl kill them, and if they do, then yes its haram.however FOOD isnt haram, SO EATING ALOT OF IT is your own damn fault. FOOD cannot be labelled haram, excpet of course pork, etc....but otherwise whatever we are allowed to eat is HALAL, its when we ourselves HARAMAFY it....

now with alcohol/tobacco/sheeehsa.....These things are not even allowed in certain small commodities.....its not as if tobacco taken once a week is GOOD FOR YOU....theres no social/health benefits at all and so isnt even mentioned and so common sense should prevail.

by saying why isnt high fat food haram, thats abit thick, seeing as FOOD is halal, WE can make it HARAM...

??

yeah

ermmmm, since when was smoking tobacco haraam?? It doesn’t take you out of your natural state of mind… yes, it is addictive and bad for you, but that doesn’t make it haraam.
We’re talking about normal tobacco here people, not weed!!! :smack:

And yet it’s not haram? :rotfl:

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

HOW is it haraam??????????? Coffee / tea is addictive too... something being addictive and something taking you out of your natural state of mind are two entirely different things..... just because YOU personally don't agree with something, doesn't make it haraam!! Grow a brain... please!!!

Re: The sheesha phenomenon

Yeah everything can be addictive If you want to look it from that angle, even water and sex and and and...Maybe you should follow your own advice.
