Sri Lanka walloped the Men in Blue in the first round, sending Team India packing. Now, a survey makes it seem that the Lankans are a better looking lot than Indian cricket team too.
The ‘Sexiest Men in Cricket’ poll featured neither Dhoni with his funky hairdo, nor Dravid with his charming looks.
‘Slinga’ Mailnga may not have set the World Cup final on fire but his cool dude attitude has won him the tag of ‘the sexiest man in cricket’, beating the likes of Mohammad Sami, Brain Lara, Andrew Flintoff, Shaun Tait, Chris Gayle and Kevin Pietersen.
The contest to pick the ‘sexiest men in cricket’ was conducted by ‘Easy Magazine’ of the Barbados ‘Sunday Sun’ newspaper and a discerning panel chose Lasith Malinga over Mohammad Sami, Daniel Vettori, Shaun Tait, Chris Gayle and Kevin Pietersen, Brain Lara, Andrew Flintoff and Makhaya Ntini.
The panel described Malinga as – “with his eye-catching, blond-streaked curly hairdo, eyebrow ring and tattooed biceps, the unique 23-old strikes ‘easy’ as the type who would be up for anything… and anywhere.
“The Sri Lankans have brought life to this World Cup with their exuberant, joyful cricket and none more so than the wild child, ‘Malinga the Slinga’,” it said.
The poll was conducted by a Babados magazine and apart from Malinga featured Pakistan’s Mohammad Sami, New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori. Vettori, with his serious, bespectacled looks was just ahead of the other Kiwi in the list, Shane Bond.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Sami, England’s Kevin Pietersen and West Indian Chris Gayle were high on the glam list too, as were Australian pacer Shaun Tait and English all-rounder, Andrew Flintoff.
