The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

Our inability to unearth top-class bowlers is fairly well known…but now for the first time since I have been following Indian Cricket…I hardly see any budding batting potentials either.

The sad truth is that there is no future Gavaskar/Tendulkar/Azharuddin/Dravid in the horizon…the best we have are the vastly mediocre Uthappas/Gambhirs/Venkat Raos…and that is not saying much.

Even a small nation (with far lesser population) like Sri Lanka appears to have a bigger pool of talented youngsters than India.

So we can clamour for the head of Tendulkar, Sehwag and the rest(and rightly so)…but where are their replacements…I do not see any.

And the Spin Department (traditionally India’s strength) is another area which appears to be totally barren of young talents.

It is an interesting situation, one billion strong nation of cricket crazy people - but not enough talents to fill 11 slots.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket…

yar no need to grumble

These two countries with half the population of the entire earth have always been the back benchers when it comes to the international sporting scene, apart from occasional individual glimpses of excellence.

Maybe its the genes :hmmm:

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

Solution would be that give new guys extended run right after the worldcup.Yes team will suck for 1-2 season but they will get better. Also, even if these young guns will lose in first season they will still be going down fighting rather than meek surrended that existin DemiGods do.
Get Sehwag, Sachin, Agarkar, Ganguly, Robin, Bhajji and Kumble big boot and bring in Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Pujara, Gambhir, Ranadeb Bose, Shahid Nadeed, Piyush Agarwal etc etc.
But will selectors have balls to drop Sachin and Ganguly. I doubt it. Nothing is gonna change. Most you will hear is that Robin,Bhajji and Agarkar are dropped and then same **** will continue.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

I am amazed at the shamelessness of Tendulkar and Ganguly. Why can't they just quit? At least Inzi showed some shame (albeit late). There is no talk whatsoever from any of these "bay ghairats" to quit. I think the commercial aspects have totally blinded them and they don't care about the feelings of the people of India.
I really feel Indian fans are far more accomodating than the Pak fans for if Inzi had not announced his retirement after the Ireland debacle for sure he would have been sacked by now. Maybe it is this very accomodating nature of the Indian public that these so called super stars are exploiting.
How much more money can Tendu make? The only thing he should be looking at salvaging right now is his own brand name which is nose diving. He should be smart enough to realize that he needs to walk away with whatever little he has left of his name so he can milk the public for whatever it is worth after he retires.
A few more such performances and he loses his brand appeal as well. Maybe that would be poetic justice.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

I don't understand with all the money BCCI is making- how are they spending it. I mean what are they doing with it, do anybody have any idea.

I heard argument nation of billion but how many people are really playing cricket, we all played when we are really young but as far as I know there was not a single sole who really persued cricket as profession, I have seen people going in all professions but not cricket for that matter any other sport- you know why coz one have to reach top level to make money, you can't make simple living if you don't reach top and who would want to sacrifice there best years in persuit of something you may are may not acheive, its like hitting a lottery

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

This is the right time before it gets too late for Indian viewers.
Give importance to some other sports as well.
We need to invest same amount of energy and finance as we spent on Cricket...we are about to get an exit in the first round, so now we have no excuse that in other sports we will be worse than Cricket.
Moreover, we can't see any talented Cricketer in future who can revive our fortunes, except BCCI and money making homeground series.

Time for us to think beyond Cricket....Kabaddi is one sport which is begging for viewership...and there is no harm in watching it, at least once:(

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

Reject tullay baz like Sehwag, Dhoni and Phatan who are mainly in the team due to their 'flash' rather match winning qualities.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

Kis kisko reject kerogey...all are tullay bazs.

If you will remove one..there are 10 more who will prove to be the same...I can't see any future for Indian Cricket, that's the fact.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

I think Pakistan and India should play a best of 7 Series with 3 matches in Pakistan and 4 matches in India

That should satisfy our cricket cravings

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

The selectors are not the only one at fault.
Desi public have a very short memory too. Even if Tendu is dropped....very soon you will see the same public who want his head now....asking for his recall. When Gangu was recalled for the South Africa series, I had said he may make a 50 here and a 40 there...but he was practically useless as a long term viable solution....and I am being proven right.

Actually the situation is pretty much the same in the political arena too. There is a bomb blast in Bombay, scores of people die.....opposition denounces the Government, there are calls for investigation, the media fuels the public emotion further by sensationalizing all angles, there are public debates, newspaper columns etc............ And then as weeks pass, the blast begins to fade from the public memory and from the media...the outcry cools down....life goes on as earlier............that is until the next bomb blast happens.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

^^ that also describes Pakistani cricket

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

problem is not having enough talent, but the real problem is not giving the youngster enough chance to prove themselves. has tendulkar ever taken his team out of a crises situation when they really needed him, but media will still portray him as the god of cricket india. its time for a change now

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

its a transition thing, we had/have the same problem finding good fast bowlers after our golden time.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket…

No it is not in the genes…it is the mindset of the society…achieve whatever you want to achieve but by shortcuts, nepotism, favouritism et al.

Why Desis excel abroad..we know the answers.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket…

Shewag and Ganguly did quite a lot for the team this world cup but since all other teammates were completely useless it really didn’t matter. And our crown prince of cricket::mad:Tendulkar:mad: was so hopeless too since he’s never their when the team really needs him the most. I truly think he is one of the most overrated and selfish players on the team all I saw him do when he wasn’t batting was clean his nails every time they showed him on tv. He looked like he had absolutely no drive to win.

I wonder why they didn’t let (hot looking!)irfan pathan play much. And I was really hoping that they would let the fast bowler (also hot looking!)Abid Nabi play for the first time this year since he looked really promising. Oh well, I want a complete change in the team next world cup and i don’t want to see Tendulkar’s face anymore.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket.....

Mr. Rahul Dravid should back down from the the captaincy before the board strips him down..looks like the wall has a crack on it.

Re: The sad fact about Indian Cricket…

I can imagine how passionate the people of Pakistan and Indian countries are but commiting a suicide and wasting your life is stupidity especially for these loosers.
