The roti / Salan question

I often wonder how the combination started . Is Saalan made to be able to consume the roti easily. Or is it the other way round, as in, the roti was discovered to consume the Saalan easily?

If we are very hungry, should we increase the quantity of the roti or increase the salan? which is the better and the healthier option?

Re: The roti / Salan question

Neither. Follow the sunnah.

Re: The roti / Salan question

I prefer saalan but my Mom always used to say to me…* roti ke sath saalan khaya karo, saalan ke sath roti nahin!*

Alas, it’s been a long time since I enjoyed that combination :hinna:

Re: The roti / Salan question

Haha. Good qn. Not sure if salan is to accompany roti, or the other way round. But I sure do like more salan than roti! Chicken ka salan - simple, home made by mom with hot rotis. Yummy.

Love this thread! How very interesting

Re: The roti / Salan question

MIL says zeda salan khana beemari lata hy. I don't agree.

Re: The roti / Salan question

surely salan is the main dish and roti is a side/accompaniment? much like soup and bread/bread roll? But then again we're pakistanis. Who knows.

Re: The roti / Salan question

I see it as a way to consume a better/wholesome menu as a combination of carbs/fibres/protein etc. Who ever coined.roti.salan did a great service healthwise.

Re: The roti / Salan question

Depends on the mood. Sometimes my mom cooks so tasty that to enjoy the aroma fully, I only eat the salan and dont touch the roti.
