Ps, if you are not misleading why you cannot answer to any single question and everytime coming with new definitions?
anjjan my whole family plus friends are practicing Muslims.
My father/brother speak/read Arabic like urdu and follow quran.
No one ever raise hand on their wifes.
How ever my step mother once brought to my fathers attention that one of our maid's husband used to abused her.
So we stopped him from abusing her, on base of this teaching"stop talking--if they dont stop fooling around ---then stop sharing bed-----if wife dont behave thine you can hit them gently"
So its more like to controlling abusive nature of "MAN" --not to turn a calm man into abusive.
Nothing to do with women because they are usually victims.
(Plus unlike other religon(hinduism, Christianity) women have right of divorce)
People like me can't understand every aspect of quran.
Quran deals with so many things.
Sociology, biology, physics, astronomy, geography(these are the things i know+i love astronomy and physics so thats my major interest)
So unless am an expert in that field I should either research or rely on some one who have.
=========================================================================
I am not sue If I want to continue this discussion. Because "I don't protect my religion".
But If some need some objective information I would love to help.
If some one just want to say bad things about my religion, I don't really care.
Its like me commenting on cooking---or me commenting on chemistry about which I don't know a thing.
The connotation is there. When you have scholars like Tabari and Razi suggesting that the so-called beating be done with a coiled cloth or a twig, then I'd say that translation not only more correct but what was understood from the earliest times of Islamic scholarship and practice.
If anything, the nonsense over 4:34 and invocations of images of spousal abuse (or anything approaching that) is nothing short of anti-Islamic hysteria.
Afridi786 has given very good detailed commentary about the meanings and detail but those who do not want to believe, still don’t understand and come back with the “same question”.
The problem here is muslims and non-muslims love to take the Quran’s Ayahs out of context and argue over them, ridicule them. I have given the details of the context of the aya 4:34 and several others have tried to explain it but those who do not believe, they are still coming up with objections and criticism.
As Knock-Out Artist explained the idea is to tame the man down and not to make a monster out of a calm man. People forget the tribal society Prophet Muhammad :saw: was dealing with, the ones who wud burry their daughters and abuse their women. It wud have sounded so comical if Quran were to say, O women beat your husbands… there you go you have equal rights now!
What happens in todays society, take a non-muslim society. What happnes in a situation of spousal unfaithfulness: Do All women beat their husbands, or do men loose control? How many Domestic Violence Victims do we come across as men? How many Shelters are there for men victims of domestic violence?
Unfortunately, both muslims and non-muslims, don’t want to understand the spirit and context in which these verses were revealed. Prophet Muhammad :saw: warned once that there wil be people who will take Quran and Ahadith completely out of context. And we have come to that madness, as we can see several of such people around, on this forum too.
Absolutely wrong. In fact everytime he is twisting with the words and coming up with new definitions…and if he is correct, why you cannot condemn all those renowned scholars of Islam who translate the verse 4:34 as ‘beating’ or lightly beating’ if they have incorrectly defined the words of Allah.
I do not know if it is rational to ask you and your fellow beleivers that…
After reading so many responses in defence of Islam, would like to know a single role model Islamic society where Muslim women are enjoying a normal life???
knockout_artist…sorry, here we are discussing something in general and nothing individual. Otherwise, may I ask you why your father needed a step mother for you?
lol what do u want us to say? You obviously have something in mind. I'm not a scholar, those were my opinions, and if it does say beat, its for women who r involved in disloyalty and ill-conduct, im not saying it does, also dont forget "If a wife fears cruelty or desertion on her husband's part, there is no blame on them if they arrange an amicable settlement between themselves;" 4:128,
What do u mean by women enjoying a normal life? Define normal, cuz muslim men aren't allowed to do anything muslim women aren't.
Besides have you gone to any muslim countries, or are you just repeated what you see on the news.
I think we have enough discussed this issue in details and thanks to Afridi I got much new information.
In another verse Quran says that one can sleep with ** ‘what your right hand possesses’ **.
Many renowned scholars of Islam have translated/ interpreted it as ‘your (maid) servant’.
Let me know if this interpretation is also incorrect otherwise it seems to me morally incorrect.
Moreover, I suppose that this verse does not give the same right to a female master to sleep with what her right hand possesses.
After reading so many responses in defence of Islam, would like to know a single role model Islamic society where Muslim women are enjoying a normal life?????
Excuse me? I'd like to know any role model society where all people (never mind female) are leading exemplary lives.
There are plenty of Muslim women, if not the vast majority, who live within the parameters of what they would deem an acceptable normalcy. In your own racist mindset, this may be impossible to fathom, but such is the case....
