Shaykh Karim Abu Zaid is one of the most well-known American scholars. He often appears on various shows to deliver talks, and has his own series of talks which I’ll be sharing today. May Allah bless the shaykh, and benefit many from his deliverance of the message.
Teggy just to let you know this, having listened to the first few minutes, the work presented is from a student of ''shaykhh al bani'' - this is red warning flag. controversial. Its a re-evaluation of Islamic beliefs, rather then a continuation that we can call 'regular' and traditional Islam
Anyone taking this up would be advised that they could end up cutting ties with the islamic nation due to one or two mens self reading of Quran and Hadith
We need to be careful of even slight but important deviations, this is one totally random example of the slight but important potential deviations:
26- He advocates in his Salat al-Nabi - Allah bless and greet him -, the formula “Peace and blessings upon the Prophet” instead of “upon you, O Prophet” in the *tashahhud in contradiction of the Four Sunni Schools, on the basis of a hadith of Ibn Masud whereby the Companions used the indirect-speech formula after the passing of the Prophet - Allah bless and greet him -. But the Prophet - Allah bless and greet him - himself instructed them to pray exactly as he prayed saying: "Peace and blessings upon you, O Prophet" without telling them to change it after his death, nor did the major Companions (whose Sunna we were ordered to imitate together with that of the Prophet - Allah bless and greet him -), such as Abu Bakr and Umar, teach the Companions and Successors otherwise!
taken from *AL ALBANI - CHIEF INNOVATOR IN OUR TIME
And this action because it goes against the ‘way of the Believers’, this time the Believers here are the Salaf us Salih [around 90Ah date, so very very early Salaf inc Companions]:
22- In at least five of his books[SUP]5 [/SUP]](http://www.sunnah.org/history/Innovators/al_albani.htm#NOTES)he calls for the demolition of the Green Dome of the Prophet’s Mosque in al-Madina al-Munawwara and for taking the Prophet’s grave outside the Mosque.
JazakAllah Khair for your thoughts on the topic. InshaAllah I will read up on what you have said some more to educate myself. I do want to say though, that there is a lot of good in this series as well especially concerning matters of Tauheed and Comparative study of Islam and other previous ummahs namely Jews and Christians, please do not discard the entire series because of initial impression. If you find something good in it, AlHamdulillah even a single good word may benefit, and if you dislike something in it, leave it because we should leave that which we find to be doubtful.
May Allah grant us all the proper understanding of the deen.
Shaykh Karim Abu Zaid was visiting my local masjid this past weekend, had the pleasure of hearing a small talk from him after a Salah. May Allah reward him. He is the imam of a masjid in Denver, Colorado.
