The Return

Of Benazir Bhutto as well as Mian Nawaz Sharif, with or without their sidekicks in the form of husband or brother, has long been a matter of concern and speculation.

For years the govt and Gen Musharraf said that both cannot and will not return, atleast not any time near the 2007 elections. But, given the news going around over the past few months, the mention of deals between PPP and the Govt, Nawaz Sharif acting bold and saying he’d be in Pakistan before Benazir, and in a few months, have left the public bewildered.

Because the Musharraf govt does change its stance over various issues without taking anyone into confidence, we are confused and wonder whether Mian and BB really are coming over this year or not!?

Are their statements false and baseless as usual? Or is the Musharraf govt giving in and loosening the grip on them…?

Whats happening, why and what for…?

The President has however said that;

http://dawn.com/2007/05/18/top9.htm
**‘Benazir, Nawaz can’t return before polls’

**ISLAMABAD, May 17: Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif will not to be allowed to return to the country before the general elections, according to President General Pervez Musharraf.

** “No. They (Ms Benazir and Mr Sharif) cannot return before elections,”** the president said in an interview with a private television channel. The interview will be aired on Friday.

The president said: “There is an increase of extremism and militancy in the country. We have to counter it. We have to face it.”

He said there were Al Qaeda elements in Mir Ali and Waziristan areas and they would be eliminated through intelligence operations.—APP

The interview was given to Talat Hussain on Aaj TV and airs 2200PST 18 May 2007.

So the President has once again said they aren’t coming back. But they keep saying they are. But they aren’t that honest; BB has worries abt the cases in courts and the corruption charges, which she wants to be removed. Mian has the secret deal signed between him, Mush and King Abdullah as well as various fears.

Let’s see who’s up to what in the next few months…

Re: The Return

yaaar so they cant come "before" the elections but they can arrive during elections..depending on how you define elections..is it the time when elections are announced, candidates announced, ballots printed, but polling has not started?

or do elections start when polling starts. the day or teh hour?

either way. if we go by the second definition then BB can come back either a minute after polling has started, or the same day when polling is starting e.g. if it starts on 10/15 she can arrive at 12:01 a.m. on that day.

if we go by the first defnition that elections have started once the candidates are all named and on the ballots than it can be days before actual polling.

thats the face saving approach..

Now, I think all participants are making noise just to pressure the other one into making concessions, thats it.

Re: The Return

if SC says ...they can come...what the General will do....

Re: The Return

Re: The Return

Haaris Zuaberi,

You are wrong as usual. NS is comming to Pakistan on 30th June. Read following news article.

http://www.dawn.com/2007/05/19/top15.htm

Nawaz to be back by June 30

By Our Correspondent

TAXILA, May 18: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would return to country before June 30. This was stated by PML- N leader Sheikh Aftab Ahmed while talking to newsmen here art Hassanabdal on Friday.

PML- N Attock President Habibur Rehman and tehsil president Asad Khan were also present on this occasion.

He said that country is passing through worst ever crisis of the history since 1971 and only PML-N exile leader has capacity to get the country out of the internal and external threats.

The situation along with Afghan border, security situation at tribal areas including Tank, D I Khan, Balochistan situation, suicide bombing, ruining the various pillar of state including judiciary and media, lawlessness in central Punjab, poverty, unemployment, price hike and ever-growing prices of utilities are the gift of the present rulers given to the masses during their seven years rule.

He said that people of the country backed by all segments of the society including politicians and lawyers rose up against the present rulers and regime change is inevitable.

Re: The Return

Bhai, you are right :D. You are right that Nawaz Shareef has right to return to Pakistan and go back to where he was before leaving Pakistan (that is prison) :).

Nawaz got convicted by Anti terrorist court on terrorist charges of hijacking, and was serving life prison sentences on that conviction in Pakistan. He did not even appealed against the sentences and time has already passed for any appeal.

What I remember, the only difference was that, he got life prison sentences while government was thinking to appeal and ask court for death sentence. Nevertheless, due to foreign interventions (especially from Saudi Arabia that threatened to harm Pakistan economically if Nawaz is not let go) Nawaz was released to go to Saudia. Some other cases on corruption are also pending in Pakistani courts against Nawaz.

It is surprising that some people blame government that government deported NS to Saudia against his will. Well, when Zardari was in prison without any problem and government was not worried, what stopped the government to keep NS into prison too and do not worry?

Anyhow, can anyone tell me that since when Pakistan has started dictating Saudia? Well, when USA was so much against Pakistan coup (by army in 1999) and when all American allies and slaves (like Saudia) were towing American line, why Saudia would have behaved as Pakistani poodle, to accept whoever Pakistan deports?

I do not know that any person can live in Saudia without Saudi will and permission. Recently when BD wanted to deport Khalda Zia to Saudia, Saudia did not even give visa for her to even enter Saudia. Well, if NS was sent to Saudia without the permission of Saudia, Saudi could have deported him back to Pakistan.

Does anyone think that Saudia is under the thumb of Pakistan that whatever Pakistan would ask, they would oblige? While in Saudia, for years Nawaz could not come out of Saudia until Pakistan government gave him permission. Why was that? Does that happen to anyone who are living in Saudia, that they stay there for years just because Pakistan is not allowing them to leave Saudia?

Well, NS was in Saudia when his passport got expired, still he was staying in Saudia and stayed there for years on expired passport. Is that normal for any person to live in Saudia on expired passport? Well, apart of living on expired passport, Nawaz was living in Saudia not as dependent of anyone nor on any employment (and all his family was living there in similar way). Does Saudia officially allow people to live in Saudia without Job (hence without sponsor) and without being dependent on someone?

I have never heard Nawaz blaming Saudia, that Saudia is poodle of Pakistan and accepted whatever Pakistan asked them regarding him, why?

Does anyone stops Nawaz going back to Pakistan? Why Nawaz do not talk about an option of getting deported to Pakistan from UK. He can easily get deported to Pakistan if he stops renewing his British visa or asking for any political asylum, as in that case UK would deport him to Pakistan (he is in UK on Pakistani Passport and valid visa). Why he is not taking that option? Is it not the case that he knows that if he go back to Pakistan, he would either end up in prison or get deported to Saudia? But why get deported to Saudia if he is not even national of Saudia? Why he thinks that Saudia would accept him?

Just imagine why and how Pakistan managed to deport Shahbaz to Saudia? Is Saudia Pakistani colony that they can deport anyone there? Did that deportation happened and Pakistan managed to do that, just because Pakistan wanted to, OR because there was some arrangement with Saudia and on that arrangement Saudia was obliged to accept Shahbaz? Can that arrangement happen just because Pakistan desires or it could only happen if Saudia wants that?

Nevertheless, if Nawaz believe (or hoodwink Pakistanis to believe) that he was living in Saudia against his will and still managed to live there without Saudia putting him in prison or deporting him, rather giving him royal reception and status of royal guest, I am sure many Pakistani would like to know the way, as millions want to go and live in Saudia the way Nawaz went there and lived, unconditionally :). I think that NS should tell this secret to Pakistanis, so that they can also become Saudi guest like him, and live in Saudia without Passport and visa, without deportation or going to prison.

These Nawaz supporters and party members come on TV and keep hoodwinking Pakistanis by their lies and claiming idiotic things as true, is beyond imagination. They talk lies bluntly and try to make other believe that President Musharraf is master of Saudia and when he decided, he deported Nawaz to Saudia, as if Saudia is Pakistani colony. They never mention why Saudia took this criminal coming straight from prison where he was serving prison sentence, and put this criminal into royal palace? I think that there is limit on making fool of ordinary Pakistanis, but seems that many do not even think.

Re: The Return

good one saleem :)

Re: The Return

Saleem sahab....good article....very good peice of knowledge...i must accept...

*yes..i know..its the biggest fault of NS to leavePakistan..he faced the music...
his party...totally broken...

*NS sent ...i think...thousands of troops to Saudia in 1991 gulf war for safety of saudia...and holy cities...many our brave soldiers...martyred when USA soldiers tried to enter Makkah...

*so relations developed there...

*NS took Shah Abdullah to KRL...where even BB never allowed to go...

*NS purpose was to tell our greatest friend saudia that..this is not Pakistani bomb but islamic bomb...

*there...prince abdullah...at that time...fahd was alive...promissed to give 1 billion free oil annualy to pakistan due to post explotion sanctions..and freezing accounts...

*despite of BB....NS is very religious person...so in good books of Saudia...he used to visit saudia in umra when he was CM Punjab in Zia era with Zia...

*thats why Clinton + Shah Abdullah put maximum effort to save him....

Re: The Return

and yes..if he will come...its the breakage of very high level truce between general andShah Abdullah....General also very much respect Saudia and him...so thats why Government never showed this truce to media...as its the disrespect of Shah Abdullah..Khadmanai Harmainai Shareefain....

Thats why NS is reluctant to come...and if he will come...according to Shaikh Rasheed..in the next flight will be sent to Jaddah....
as 3 years still left...

he has saved his life...but its a death of his political carrrer....

but still...i have no doubt....he is very famous still now...as his initiative with no dealing with establishment...while BB is on her cheap ways....

and Nation is not so fool ...that cannot differentiate between the 2...

Re: The Return

Haha, which jihadi akhbar did you pick this one from? You are a real joker.

Re: The Return

So you believe whatever he says…? I thought you weren’t that wrong that often…

And at this moment of uncertainty by which model do we exactly infer who’s right and who’s wrong; President or Mian saab…?

Re: The Return

Haris Zuberi,

The fact is that NS was elected with so called heavy mandate and he was legal PM, but booted out illegally by sacked army chief Mush. This is not the way civilised countries work. NS should have been booted out through vote not through army boot. I must say NS is right.

As for as his corruption, who is not corrupt in Pakistan? Do you think Mush and army tola are honest? What about AH, is he not only corrupt but also a murderer?

I think what NS has said he would do it. If he comes to Pakistan before BB, he would definitely be a winner and who knows he may again become PM of Pakistan.

By the way how many times do you think I was wrong?

FARID

Re: The Return

in 1984..in Zia.period..there were80,000 in saudia to guard holy cities...and still now...there are greatest no.of Pakistanis soldiers than any other country...

Re: The Return

There were pakistani soldiers stationed in Saudi. They did not take part in any fighting and they certianly did not fight US soldiers. If they had, they would have been thrown out of the kingdom the next day.

Re: The Return

For your kind information..when US forces tried t enter the border of Makkah...40 pakistanis soldiers martyred and 13 US weer Jahannam Wasil...in 1991...

Re: The Return

can u provide some proof to back up your statement

Re: The Return
