The restaurant in your city..

Since we all live in different parts of the world .. Please name the best restaurant of the city/town you live in , know of etc etc … here’s the criteria to choose the restaurant:

1- Halal food
2- Affordable prices :emmy:

Starting with me :

  • Akbar Restaurant in Manchester
  • Red Hot buffet in Liverpool

Re: The restaurant in your city..

Mirch Masala
Spice Village

I have never been there but they are very popular here at Upper Tooting Road.

Re: The restaurant in your city..

In Chicago...there are many but then not so many.

Desi food:
Sabri Nihari
Lazzat Restaurant
Delhi Darbar - only for take out though

Cant think of anymore...X2 might know of more...

Non-desi:
Roy's...as their menu is primarily seafood so halal.
They are a bit pricey though...just an FYI.

Re: The restaurant in your city..

For price and quality of (halal) food....

  • Bombay Junction in Blackburn Or
  • Shahi Qila (Blackburn) and Nawab (Manchester)

I'd say for range of food and for that special occasion....

  • Mai'da (Blackburn)

In general I find desi restaurants lacking in ambiance and total experience.
aside from your list I would add

khans BBQ
bhabhis kitchen
JK kebab
Lal qila (in palatine, never been there but heard good things about it from begum)
pepper and salt

for zabeeha non desi joints
kan zaman
kabul
pita crave
a la turka
andalous
turquoise
cafe orchid
pomegranate
alhambra

then there are tons of great places with fantastic seafood, green village alone has many.
and you have your typical high price great ambiance seafood places

two cheaper and great seafood joints are
bonefish grill

and then teh granddaddy fo them all when it coms to seafood in chicago.

bob chins..can not be beat for variety and freshness of product, one of the busiest restaurants in america, huge menu, specials of the day. crab, fish, lobster…u name it

Re: The restaurant in your city..

lahori masala in london

A1 kababish

Totally forgot about Khan BBQ and JK Kabab House…they are actually very good too. :yummy:

I recently went to the Himalayan. Its a South Indian restaurant in Bloomingdale but the menu has a lot of meat options as well. A casual sit down place and nice atmosphere. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the food was really good. We were all so sick of dawat food and didn’t want to look at another plate of biryani so this was a nice change of palate and not that pricey either. Definitely a fan of them.

I will say X2…I went to Lal Qila for a few events recently and the food was not that great. It was unimpressive all four times I was there. Their rice was mediocre and kababs were pheekay pheekay. Its not horrible but not amazing either. There was a really nice sweet table at one of the parties but it was from an independent source, not LQ.

A La Turka is halal??? Whaaaa? I had no idea! Reha knows where she is going next!

I adore seafood……thanks for the link to Bob Chinn’s!!!

Re: The restaurant in your city..

Reha , arent you on a diet or something :omg: … toba , you get so excited with food talk :hugz:

Re: The restaurant in your city..

LAHORE in Commercial Road...East London is most excellent
Mumbai Junction in Harrow is great...lovely atmosphere and delish food...it's halal
Mirch Masala in Southall
Karahi King in Wembly

As you can see,I get around...:)

When I was I was in NY a few years back we went to this little place in Jackson Heights where they did the most amzing kofte and kheer.Tried finding it again, but never did.
Sabri nihari is fabby...and there is a little restaurant opposite it where we had brekkie. It was just like home made...armlet...parathe...lassi...oh sooo nice.

I do get excited, dont I? Mein kya karoon? :hehe: You have no idea how big of a foodie I am.

My friends and I try a new restaurant in Chicago every single month…I usually pick them and organize the evening out. A totally different cuisine every time is the rule. Its so much fun and I know Im supposed to be on a diet and getting into shape but the last time I checked…round was a shape.

Im also the official social event organizer at work and am constantly putting together potlucks, dinners, etc.

Its not my fault…science needs to catch up with me and create food that has no calories…:bummer:

But then again , round is a shape … :omg:

Reha.. I go to chicago all the time to have yummy pakistani food.. usually we start with Tahoora and have their (halwa puri) and usualy have late lunch at either sabri nihari or Khan BBQ.. they are both awesome.. Unfortunately there aren't many good pakistani restaurants in my area!

Re: The restaurant in your city..

Salt n Pepper in Bridgeport, Ct.

I've only been there once but the food was excellent. Can't wait to go back again.

Lady, you only live once and one of the perks of marriage is being able to cook for your partner and have wonderful food together! To kyuuuun nahin?

Tahoora’s halwa poori nashta is awesome…King’s is good too! Spinzer’s chat is good and Nirala also has yummy desserts!
