My initial reaction on seeing the video was, barring a few genuinely offensive things like making light of rape.. I was fine with it. TV personas are nothing new. Public personas are nothing new. Everyone behaves according to audience, atleast everyone I know. Theres a difference between how I am with friends, how I am with parents, and how I might be on TV. There is no problem for me if someone offers a more ‘polished’ version of themselves on TV. Possibly he behaves in a more civilized way in front of his parents and they watch the show too.

Personally I would like to see religion being brought out of this saccharine, doe-eyed mould that Aamir Liaquat morphs into as soon as the camera goes live.

I do have a problem with a few things, with his message. Turns out he has preached against cursing. On his ‘defence’ he said the zaban that loves the Prophet doesnt utter obscenities. Now what is that if now just lying and utter hypocrisy. Also hes been on an ahmadi bashing spree lately, and he blamed this video, with zero basis, on ahmadies [while also on GEO, suggesting that GEO works for ahmadies?]. All of that absolute nonsense makes it impossible for me to defend him, and makes me enjoy his momentary fall from grace.

Your last paragraph I agree with … however I’m not buying in to this TV personas angle … I believe there are excellent people in this world who are beautiful in public yet even more sublime and God-Conscious in private … as layers of privacy narrow in then the levels of care and religious prudence should increase not decrease … The most sincere a person should be to his religion is when he is alone in the last part of the night with only His Lord … At other times with friends he relaxes a bit more, with film crew a bit more and in public behind a camera a bit more …

The prophet (SAW) told us to be firm outside and soft inside our homes … the reverse is often the case … if we perform then it should be the other way round and appear more jovial and layman like in public and become stricter as we get more solitude … but certain barriers must never be crossed … such as bad language and slander, annoying people or being unnecessarily harsh.
