The Range-Bound Market

The market has been range bound, with the S&P 500 Index stuck between 2060 and 2010 in the past few months. What is the catalyst(s) that can lift the market out of this tight range?

Please share your thoughts.

Thank You.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market dropped to 2077, then finished at 2093. An #AlertReader](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=AlertReader) pointed out this is 33% of the tight range in OP.

Why this huge swing, readers? Could it be after effects of triple bichhing?

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market finished at 2102. 8 points off the upper end of its range. (Just.saw in OP the upper end was stated as 2010. It is 2110.)

Reason for move upwards was cited to be earnings season that is upon us.

Pundits know bezt.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

This week the market scaled old heights and reached 2107. But gave it all back in one day, resting comfortably at 2082. The range is still intact. Till it isnt. But them there will be a new range.

And the market will still be range bound.

Thank You.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

What will be that catalyst that moves the market out of its current range? Will it be the resurgence in oil prices? Will it be the strengthening dollar. Or a reversal in dollar strength.

Or will it be repeal of estate tax on the top 0.01 pct that the House passed - along with other emissions?

Time will tell.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market approached within 0.7 pct of all time high - or the upper limit of its range.

In other words, still range bound.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

And promptly the market marched back from the upper end of its range. To the multiple queries - yes, still range bound.

But there is a new catalyst - something about nano blood draw technology - that could move the market beyond its range.

In either direction.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

With Misbah retired from ODI those looking for thrills have been following the daily gyrations of the market. With an hour to go, the mkt is about to test all time highs.. 0.4 pct off it to be exact.

The needle less needle apparently was responsible for today's gain.

Needless to say

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market marched closer to the high of 2017 - and came within a Gulabo's whisker, at which point the glass ceiling exerted itself.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

And it happened. Finally.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market still range bound. Can someone provide insights on what factors could catapult it out of this range.

1). End of QE?
2) LOW unemployment?
3) goldilocks economy?
4) ssigns of rebound in Europe and Asia?
5) Technicals?

Thank you.

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market stepped out of its range.

Bear ly

Re: The Range-Bound Market

The market ventured further out of its range on the upside.

What do our in-house technicians think? Does the market have legs? What about its 200 day moving average? And why is 200 day moving average relevant? Or is the 65 day MA more relevant? Or are both equally irrelevant?

Can someone walk us through the complexities of this market?

And why does Learning Matlab have more than half the views of this thread in bear ly one day? Are there hidden themes and trends within this?
Thank you.
