She sat on the prayer mat. Her eyes heavy and her mind filled with the worst thoughts and expectations. The tears stung behind her tightly closed eyelids and her heart began to beat faster. Too many unanswered questions, she thought. Too many worries, fears - fears of the unknown, fears of that which was beyond her control. What should she do? Where could she go? Who could she run to? Should she give up or keep marching forth?
The Qur’an.
She held it in her hands, and began to turn its delicate pages. She turned them slowly, hoping that He would inspire her to stop at the verse she needed the most at that moment. She stopped, gazed down at her page, and then slowly began to recite the words of her Lord,
“And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. Allah named you “Muslims” before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah . He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.” [22:78]
So strive, O worried slave of Allah, strive. March forth. Hold onto prayer in this difficult time, hold fast to Him. For He is your protector, helper and your ultimate guide. Let the Qur’an heal you, let it guide you in your every aspect of life. He has chosen you to be upon the truth, so hold onto it tightly and you will never lose.
