I started this thread after engaing in a disscussion with Faceup.
I assert that the Quran has many literal descriptions of many scientific facts please read. Some of these are my interpretations…many astronomical and geological I have been proffessionally recognised in these subjects and am a muslim.
I hate long posts…this is worth it though.
** --sura 21, verse 33:
“(God is) the One Who created the night,and day, the sun and the moon. Each one is travelling in an orbit with its own motion.” **
Self explanatory but recognised 14 centuries ago.
**“Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We clove them
asunder and We got every living thing out of the water. Will they not then believe?” **
Effectively the newly proported ‘big bang’ theory.
Also, as having studied paleontology, life in the fossil record emerges after the formation of oceans.
** sura 55, verse 33: “O assembly of Jinns and Men, if you can penetrate regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate them! You will not penetrate them save with a Power.” **
Effectively mans and (aliens?) conquest of space through escaping gravity.
** (sura 51, verse 47)
“The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily. We are expanding it.” **
Expanding universe…a very modern theory.
** Allah said: And the mountains Has He firmly fixed. (Qur’aan 79:32).
And He said: And the mountains as pegs. (Qur’aan 78:7).
And He also said: And he has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you. (Qur’aan 16:15). **
The mountains have a wedge-like shape where the mountain itself is but a small part of the whole whose root is deeply entrenched in the ground. One of the functions of the mountains is to play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth. This is exactly how the Qur’aan described mountains 14 centuries ago. ‘Pegs’
** Or (the unbelievers state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: Depths of darkness, one above another: If a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! For any to whom Allah does not give light, there is no light. (Qur’aan 24:40). **
Layers of oceanic depths below the photic zone! only realtively recently discovered. Light generally penertrates 200m.
Then he turned to the sky, and it had been (as) smoke (dukhaan): He said to it and to the earth: come you together, willingly or unwillingly. They said: we do come (together) in willing obedience. (Qur’aan 41:11).
Interstallar gas clouds…their condensation formed the sun earth and planets.
