I’d like to kick of a thread about the Quota system. Indian guppies are welcome to post related information about India and problems with it’s quota system
Quota system based on caste or domicile is harmful to the growth and progress of society
context: There are many who believe that the quota system put in place to help underprivileged class of people (defined either by their backward class or by rural vs. urban domiciles) to avail growth opportunities is actually harmful to the growth and progress of their country. For instance:
it undercuts educational and professional standards of the country
it works against well qualified candidates for no fault of their own
it divides the society and pitches one section against another
and in return it benefits only a very small sub-section of the underprivileged
What is your opinion – should quota systems exist in educational and employment opportunities in India or Pakistan?
No it shouldnt. I do not believe in elevating underqualified candidates. However, we can have better representation of disparate parts, like Baluchistan, the Northern areas by a effective tergeted recriuting effort.
Here in the US, theres an Affirmative Action program which is not a quota system per se, yet it elevates sometimes underqualified minority candidates. i don't think we need that either.
In Pakistan, theres a perception of Urdu Speakers-Punjabis dominating the civil bureaucracy and Punjabi-Pakhtuns in the Military..It would be nice to break these perceptions by have more local candidates in say Baluchistan.

Better representation yes, but no quotas.

Very well said RajputFury! the quota system is flawed and dose not warrant equal representation, however an equal vote under the constitution dose provide the minority with equal power and representation.
