What OUGHT to be the real purpose of reading fiction?

  2. For artistic stimulation - ex. being stimulated by allegories, etc.

As far as Urdu fiction is concerned, it is believed that Miratul Uroos by Deputy Nazir Ahmad was the first of its kind fictional piece that in many ways defines what classical fiction in Urdu literature is. It revolves around a fictional story of two sisters who get married into the same family and managed their house very differently, with one making all the obvious mistakes and the other being perfect in every regard. It is considered a classic and it is said that Deputy Nazir Ahmad wrote it for his own daughter who was about to get married.

So according to classical Urdu fiction, the idea is to present both sides of the story but in a way that it brings out a moral/purpose at the end.
