The 'price' I don't value

That night was stormy and rainy. As I hurried out of a shop into a park and moved towards my home, I saw the same man with torn clothes quietly standing in the rain selling corns. As usual no one was buying it from him. He was quietly watching the people enjoying with their children, laughing, buying expensive clothes, eating food and moving towards their expensive cars.

I asked him the price of one corn. Confused, he quickly paused for a second and then looked into my eyes, as if I would run away if he told me a higher price. Then he humbly said, “1.5 lira”. When I said “ok” an amazing innocent smile appeared on his face, as if he was happy that I didn’t ask him to reduce the price. That smile would have healed the heart that was wounded in the past after seeing the sight of people in a shinny air conditioned car insisting him under a scorching sun to give them 3 corns for 1 lira, and he sadly accepting it after realizing that they would leave if he didn’t accept it. They would waste hundreds on useless fun, but never give him a bit extra then he asks for.

One of them told me that he never saw his parents and was born in a place where there weren’t many people to guide him towards education. I swear that I would have been in his place had my parents not drummed the importance of education into my mind.

They might not know, but I know why there is always a satisfied look on their face and a tense look on mine. Because, on the day of judgement it would be my turn to sweat very hard for justifying each and every bit of my possession, how I got it, and where did I “prefer” to spend it. But they don’t have anything to be questioned for. They have many reasonable and logical excuses for not praying, fasting, giving charity,…etc. but the angels of punishment won’t show any mercy on me…

May Allah (swt) give awareness to people like me who have gone astray from the right path..

Thanks for this.

Re: The 'price' I don't value

Interesting story. The more you have, the more you're accountable for.

Re: The 'price' I don't value

I think it should be the case...coz ppl who have more should do something worth while..something charitable....

I dnt get why we spend sooooooooo much money on weddings, on yachts,...spending 100s of thousands on jst things which we don't NEED...do something for children, and ppl who are less fortunate...

I think by doing something to make some1 smile and to ease their pain gives more pleasure than anything else...

Jazak'Allah Khair. Nice post. seriously we need reminders all the time in this day and age when everything and everyone is taking you away from Allah in every which way.

Re: The 'price' I don't value

Thanks for sharing this. You lose bucks when you save coins. We cant do a lot with a few coins that we save this way, but it means a lot to them since they have to pile it. And you got a lot more if you be generous. i wish people learn.

Although i only feel this way when in pakistan or in a poor country where its obvious. here in the uk, i walk past my local supermarket and theres people sitting there who are most likely NOT in the same situation who are given council housing and food and etc, but still through greed will sit there and beg, and then i see the same people get up once they have collected enough for a burger in mcdonalds go into mmcdonalds and get it...

i never give money to people like that.
