the power of 1000 hard drives in the palm of your hand

Now this is something that’s definitely going in my PC as soon as its out!

"A new flash storage card from Fusion io could make huge storage area networks go the way of the dinosaur and DoDo bird. The company’s upcoming ‘ioDrive’ combines hundreds of gigabytes of flash storage onto a small computer card and company officials claim that the tiny card could replace banks of hard drives.

The ioDrive is a PCI Express card with a controller and NAND flash chips. This isn’t a controller for other drives, but rather a self-contained storage device that can be easily popped into an empty motherboard slot.

The card has 160 parallel pipelines that can read data at 800 megabytes per second and write at 600 MB/sec. He even proved it by running a Linux drive I/O benchmark. But for large corporations running busy databases, operations per second is a much more important number than bandwidth."

 What on earth!

And I was so happy about my external 500 SATA/USB HDD!

The thing will cost like thousands of Euro for sure.

Yeah, @ $30/gb, 80 gb drive would be $2,400. :)

Re: the power of 1000 hard drives in the palm of your hand

Wait a year or so and it will be selling for half that price.

Re: the power of 1000 hard drives in the palm of your hand

I will buy one of these in September of 2009 with 2 TB of space for less than $500. You can take my words for it. I will refer back to this post of mine this day 2 years from now.

Re: the power of 1000 hard drives in the palm of your hand

Re: the power of 1000 hard drives in the palm of your hand

by that time there will be an even more advanced and more faster technology, which will cost just as much :biggthumb and this one will be outdated :halo:
