Assalamu Alaykum,
I am putting forth a humble request to the admins to reconsider some of the rules that are in effect regarding the threads that are closed due to inappropriateness of postings and the contents.
I think the problem is not the sectarian issues, the problem lies with the policies that should be in effect.
I humbly propose the following:
-
No poster should be allowed to post a direct attack against another member.
-
If such an act takes place, it is not the thread that should be closed, rather the member who posts such comments should be placed on probation.
a. This could mean giving him a warning and if the member does not amend his ways, letting him not post for a given amount of time.
b. Or, alternatively, the admins scrutinizing his posts for a given period of time in order to make sure that the posts are appropriate for others. -
The discussion on the forum should be open for all issues, including sectarian issues and the like, but it should be dealt as a ‘discussion’ forum, where discussions should take place in the best manner.
a. Therefore, copy/pastes should not be allowed except limited text with citation as done in formal research papers.
Having said that, I believe that Muslims in general should also consider the fact that there is no one who can claim to have complete knowledge of Islam after the last Prophet Muhammad (sws) passed away. Every Muslim has been raised and groomed with a certain set of beliefs and they have been told that this is ‘the Islam’. Therefore, differences of opinion exist, and they have existed amongst the greatest scholars of Islam. Consequently, the posters should understand that their knowledge about a particular issue may not necessarily be the correct knowledge, therefore, we, as Muslims, should develop an ability to reason with others rather than getting emotional and writing personal messages and accusing others of what not.
I think this should be the motto of this discussion forum.
Open for comments, especially from the Moderators on this forum.
Best Regards
