how can we each identify small but concrete steps to make Pakistan, a magnetic force in exemplary leadership and fair and thereby prosperous economics?
my first suggestions.
a) both men and women work 14 hours day at work & have smaller families. live within their means and narrowed gap in wealth among the diff strata of the society.
and b) leaders be selected on the basis of their merit, as caring and respectful servants of the people.
Dush, In order to have an examplary leadreship, the leaders of any country should be held accountable for their actions, their spending should be monitored and their policies should be reviewed frequently by critics. This does happen in our country however its mostly done by political rivals who want to get their own back at the rulers, its not intended to reform the system.

I hope you will be quite happy to work 14 hours a day in Pakistan. Others will follow. Charity begins at home :)

Working 14 hours a day may help in progress of the country but what we really need on large scale is "live within their means" because that is the big source of corruption in our society, people want to get more money irrespective of where/how it is obtained.

If we can start such things on personal level, it will escalate to top level as well, for example when we hire someone we look at different credentials and not just hire the referral our mamoo/khala sent for employment.... similarly when we go seek a job we shouldn't ask our chacha to use his influence/relationship with prospective employer to grant us the position.
Never ever use the "T" word in the same sentence as Pakistan.
And as you said, work hard and prove yourself where ever you work (in or outside Pakistan).
Thanks for your sentiments.
May God bless you and May God bless Pakistan.
Peace.

As antiobl has said be a good ambassador for your country at all times.
Forsaking our biases and political opinions we should always emphasize the positive aspects of our country, while constructively discussing the problems.
If every one could hold out the hand of frienship ("olive branch") to someone they have fallen out with or at least take the first step we could start to overcome our shared national problems much easier.

That's what i ALWAYS do, everytime someone finds out where i am from , most of the times they end up being HIGHLY impressed with my behaviour and attitude :D .
For e.g If i am talking to a customer who finds out i am from pakistan, i will go extra mile to help him and be very nice and polite and i do get heaps of compliments in return. On few occassions, some people even said that they think Pakistani people are very nice and they would love to visit the country:)
