So I saw the new matrix movie and for a while it seemed to be the PC version of regular movies, with the Indian family and the black woman as the oracle and the female ship driver etc. Compare it with other sci-fi movies such as Terminator, Jurrassic Park, Star Wars, even the Star Trek Movies and you see a significant difference.
Just made me think if that was a change the film directors delibrately made or it just turned up that way.
Matrix for me is not just a movie that you watch and enjoy…This movie has political innuendos hidden in it like no other movie ever made…The movie was astoundingly refreshing both in terms of eye candy and intellectual thinking…
You might be thinking, how can I read into it politically? Simple, just substitute Keanu Reeves for Osama Bin Laden, Agent Smith for G.W. Bush and the matrix itself for today’s world and you have your political view…
The Wachowskis brothers’ political influence is Socialistic…(My political science professor tells all his students to watch it):D…Look deeply into the Matrix and you will see a definite pattern emerge of class struggles and the plight of humans as nothing more than machinery designed to serve the machines (The capitalists in this sense)…
The Matrix Reloaded was a sheer disappointment…It was a sad sequel to a brilliantly orchestrated first part…Except for the action scenes, the second part holds no weight in comparison to the first…Not to mention some commercially gratuitious scenes thrown in when they are in Zion, really spoilt the mood of the movie…
If you are a Matrix fan, I highly advise you not to see the second part…It sucks big time…

I would disagree. You mentioned Star Trek, did you know that they were they introduced a woman as the 1st officer (Majell Barrett, Gene Roddenberry's wife) which caused alot of controversy too. Did you also know that they were the first ones on television to show an inter racial kiss, and that was one of the reasons the show got banned in the sixties. As for multicultural, even in the 60s they had a Chinese helmsman (Mr. Hikara Sulu), a Russian NAV (Mr. Paval Chekov), and a Swahili Comm officer (Uhura). There were various Indians throughout the series too, for instance Vijay Amritaj (the indian tennis player), ships such as USS Gandhi, Data naming his daugther Laal etc.
btw, how was the movie? Im going to an IMAX theater to see it, I have a feeling I will be dissapointed.
laj Spock.... hehehe good to see other trekies out there... I had added that just to see the effect because it was one of the first TV serials to have black women in a senion non-degrading position. However you did not notice my qualifier.. Star Trek Movies :) not the serial! In the movies you see a much more different setup I think. But yes they are/were one of the people who pushed such things to the fore front.
I have watched all three matrix movies and they have not only political but also religious innunedos. It almost reminds me of the novels of Narnia (I think the first one was called The Lion, the Witch and the Cuboard or something similar). The begining was very classical but after a while the novels, like the matrix, get too deep into all this other stuff that the story line is only there cause of the special effects.
I liked the whole "spoon" allegory..and how it's all about choices, which is a very subtle push about personal responsibility and how important faith is in everything..revolutions is a lot better than Reloaded..it flows better and the SFX are a treat. Gripes..While everything that has a beginning has an end...the ending of Part 3..left me with very mixed feelings and I felt it left tooooo many questions unanswered.
I suppose Part 1 and 2 with the death, re birth thing and miracles had a definite religious angle.
Generally it is said all epic movies have two or three essential elements at the end... a classic battle between good and evil..or a choice between victory and nothingness...some element of sacrffice..and most importantly an act of blind faith.
PC: Well, Matrix still is more PC than LOTR, lol..Lord of the Rings..has only two women in the cast..and not a single non white human being :)
Hey dont push on LoTR. The book is a classic and the movies are 100% great. The book was written during the 1930s and 40s. What do you expect? Atleast it aint as blatant as Star Wars and the whole Black White crisis. Or the voices in Episode 1 and 2.
Btw no spoilers please. I am watching the movie tomorrow. But honestly i expect this to be worse. I am watching for action and teh SFX. Nothing more the story bored me when all those cliches hit reloaded.
I mean the worst was the obvious love triumphs over all. For those who dont know what i mean. In Reloaded (those who havent seen it skip reading from here):
Anyway he is the 6th Neo right according to "God" anyway, the only difference this time is he loves Trinity. Which forces him to chose her over everything else and thus basically saves humanity and he doesnt restart the matrix, from zero. The cliche and its implementation was truly pathetic.
Though that fight on the highway really rocked and the techno score was great.
^ain't knocking it..just stating a fact ..doesn't mean it still isn't an amazing movie (who needs half a dozen female characters anyways ;) )
I'd say watch Matrix 3..but remember it is the exact opposite of part 1 in many, many ways...so go in with an open mind.
TV credit where it is due, Trek had a French Captain on one show a Black Captain on another show ...and a woman on the other. If you put all the Trek shows together they come across as one of the most racially diverse shows ever shown.
Agreed i have been a trekkie since i was 6. I blame my cousins who watched Dr. Who and the original series. Heck my obsession goes all the way to downloading episodes of Entreprise off Kazaa once a week. Though they do fill in some of the steroetypes as well. Come on what was 7 of 9 there for other than to feed the fantasy of teenage boys?
Opposite of 1? Hmm....i guess i will go. Open mind yeah well i hated 2. I guess i am gonna hate 3 as well. But will do.

Voyager was a weak entry to the otherwise brilliant franchise, so Berman ran out of ideas and brought in Jeri Ryan (7 of 9) to save the show. I must say he was succesfull. Jeri Ryan is also doing an excellent job in Boston Public these days.
Enteprise was going pretty good, until they got this whole Xindi invasion thing going on. The storyline is not as solid as it used to be in DS9.

Nice to meet another trekkie ;)
Well, the first 6 movies had the same cast as the TOS and the TNG? Look closely in 'Trek 4: The Voyage Home', and you will see Vijay Amritaj as a starship Captain, his vessel gets rendered useless by a Probe.
The rest of the movies were Rick Berman Productions, and you may be right about them, since his vision was significantly different to that of Roddenberry.
As far as 7 of 9 goes, the only reason she would wear such tight clothing was cause of the sex appeal. They didnt force the captain to wear tight leather suits did they :).
Also I think it was meant more for the mature 18+ viewership both because of the plots and content - most teenage kids wouldnt understand what they were aiming for.
It is indeed sad to see someone start off a great series and then someone else comes along and totally changes the face of it. Roddenberry was a great writer
Still CM watch the Revolutions and let us know what you think about as far as the racial set up goes. The religious undertones are too strong for me to even figure out!
As far as enterprise goes, i havent seen season 3 yet as i dont have net access to download at home. Cant do so at work. But i am waiting anxiously to seem them.
Voyager sucked. Big time. I started liking DS9 when they got those miranda class starships and the whole war with the Dominion. Before that it was just another Bablyon 5. Now that was a unqiue tv show. I loved the aspect that humans are just idiots compared to the greater scheme of things.
Heading off for revolutions in say a good 7 hours. Movie is at 9. At work and going mad right now. I wanna leave.
As for religious undertones here are some pretty obvious ones:
Zion - Zionist ie Israel
Neo - The One - Christ the savior, saves all of humanity.
Trinity - the Holy Trinty his love i know that alludes to something i am not sure what.
The scares and tubes in the body could symbolize the stigmata - stretching it i know, but i can seen an allusion to that. But as week one.
I am gonna have to see them all over again but hell the religious undertones are everywhere. Then they go in to Greek Mythology with Persphoni (i think that is how you spell her name and that was her name) etc.
Ok I loved the movie. It was pretty good. The SFX were great. The story was what was expected. Pathetic. But the plot was a mixed pace and not well done. It was fast then slow and then fast and then slow and honestly the “she/he is in love” statements drove me up the wall. Over all a damn good movie. Watching all three together I rate them 7.5 out of 10. Now on to what as special.
First the music score was superb. It was well done and the music was great. The Techno beats with the SFX fit in extremely well, the slow motion with the solid 1 or 2 beat music really did it for me. But I think the best by far was mixing Gregorian chants with techno music. The music at the last scene was superb. The Gregorian chants give it an epic feel while the techno gave it the modern action punch.
The battle scenes this time were good or two short. I love the hall way scene when they enter the fetish club. Sadly that was too short, but brilliantly done. Another aspect which was high on the coolness scale was when the three (Serpah, Morpheous and Trinity) enter the club and cycle through covering each other back.
What was pathetic were the over religious clichés. For gods sake the Oracle described Agent Smith as Neo opposite etc etc. Basically meant Anti. What else is Anti? The Anti-Christ. Neo = Christ. Agent Smith = Anti – Christ. Neo also saves humanity by sacrificing himself. Same as Christ. I just found that wrong. Last scene when he is dead and leaves, all they needed to do was put some stakes through his hands and volia he is eagle spread and ready to be crucified.
Another was when trinity was dying. You are dying you cant speak for 40 min. Die already. Another cliché that killed me, was the “I can see clearly now the rain is gone” (Jimmy Cliffe song for who don’t know). In the darkness they are attacked, they aim for the sky while the unworthy (the squids) fall back to earth in flames. I mean my christain mythology sucks, but hell even I could see that this was a very strong anology. Anyway they break the barrier between Hell (the machine city) and Heaven (that beautiful place in the sky that trinity loves) anyway then being so high they plummet to the ground along the lines of the greek myth of that boy that wanted to fly forgot his name.
However the fighting was damn good. The defense of zion was indeed the best scene in the movie after the enterance battle scene in the club.
Overall a 7.5. SFX excellent. Plot bad, but that was expected. Entertainment value 100%. Cliches over used. One thing I just loved was using Indians as computer programs. That was hilarious. The irony was great.
