So , when you are shopping at ASDA or Tesco or where ever … do you use the plastic bags generously ? or do you hold strong considerations for the environment and try to use as less of the bags as possible?
Or do you use one of those environment friendly bags?
well I never use carrier bags more than I need, I usually put heavy things in a trolly without putting them in a bag, and sometimes use environment friendly bags too.
When I was there two years ago they had started charging for the bags (like 10p or something). I'd take as many as I needed but I never had any particular concern for the environment. They have started doing the same thing here in Pakistan too, if you go to Metro you have to buy a Rs.50 bag which is like a 'bag for life' that you get at tesco.
I started using the reusable grocery bags about 4-5 years ago, when I found out how bad the plastic bags are for the environment [one bag takes 400 yrs to biodegrade!]. Now most stores here charge 5 cents per bag, which is great because many people have stopped using them
I think by now everyone should be able to start using cloth bags or reusing the ones they already have. As far as which is better, paper or plastic, I believe paper is better since it can be composted and can be sustainably produced. Plastic bags are produced using petroleum which just grosses me out.
Hardly ever. We have a lot of those strong fabric bags that the supermarkets now sell (preferable to the large strong plastic ones). They also do special ones for frozen stuff (plastic though). I much prefer them to plastic bags practically as well as it's easier to carry heavy stuff.
Whenever I forget and have to use a plastic carrier bag, I die a little.
Using them for rubbish doesn't really help the environment although it seems like recycling. Either way, it ends up in the landfill.
I have bought a load of those fabric shopping bags, so I very rarely need a plastic one. I do try to think about the environment, I dont believe in all that global warming bull but I think we should all repspect the planets resources.
^yep same here.. I use double liner for my garbage can just in case there is a leak or so.. I can't even imagine a dirty kitchen bin and we try to take out the trash almost every other day!!!
and for plastic bags, our loccal grocery stores don't carry them anymore, it ahs to be paper bag so now I prefer shopping at the super markets just so I have enough plastic bags at home :D
I have a huge germo/stinky phobia with carrying a fabric bag.. for me that would mean laundryafter eveyr shopping trip.... I just can't imagine putting all the produce, meat, etc. in a fabric bag. :-(
I guess for those of us not very comfy with fabric bags , we can try reducing the usage by reusing the same carrier bags from before ... That means you dont get as many new ones home !
I usually do a weekly top up on my shopping bag wala thela in the car boot , putting at least 5-8 plastic shopping bags in there so that when we go to ASDA or Tesco , we take our own bags along and use them :@:
