i dont take these pics as an insult or dont look at this particular seen or gen Niazis gun being displayed in the IMA as a thing to be ashamed of. in wars ppl lose and ppl win. one general loses, the other wins. not because one general ios better than the other or because he doesnt love his country but because no one can be a winner everyday. one day everyone has to face defeat. even Napolean, Nelson, Guevara, Alexander, Chengiz, Tipu...all faced defeat in the end. not because they were poor soldiers or leaders or were traitors to theirt own ppl. but because destiny had other plans.
i look at this picture and see a hero of pakistan saving some 90000 lives, i see him being smart enough to fathom the mess that the politicians and the military high command of thee time had made the situatioon into, i see him being able to make the right decision, dropping weapons when he knew his own ppl had betrayed him and refused reinforcements from the west, he knew he couldnt fight much longer; sure he could have fought top the last drop of blood, he was soldier, but he considered his reponsibilty to save thousands of innconet lives, militaryt and civil from being wasted due to incompetency of the leaders. he took it all on his broad shoulders.
thats the way i look at it, and he looks like a hero to me.

and the gun at IMA Dehradun; at the V&A museum in London, inside the subcontinent halls they have a showcase that has a sword of Tipu Sultan, a pocket watch foound on his dead body, and one of his formal long dresses displayed. when you look at that the feeling you hav is undescribable! you get goosebumps and you swell with pride! the reason they display his belongins there is because they accept the fcat that Tipu Sultan was a very imp man. they respect him for his bravery, and though he was killed fighting them, they display his sword etc to show the world their trophy! that makes me burst with pride for belonging to the subcontinent. GB and thw world today accepts what a hero Tipu was, and today some 200 yrs later even they display his stuff with pride!
if i ever visit IMA, i'll be proud to look at Gen Tiger Niazi's gun there displayed as a trophy; for they accept Niazis greatness.

Yes Gen Niazi surrendered to the Indians but what other choice was he left with? According to his book "Betrayal of East Pakistan" and recollections, he was severely out numbered against the Indians. Not only that but he was double crossed, deceive, abandoned and forsakened by the politicians, particularly Bhutto, and other generals, particularly Tikka Khan; he was made the scape goat of the Bangladesh debacle. A sad day....
How is it possible that Gen. Niazi with his limited supplies was able to not only keep the enermous Indian army that expected to take E. Pakistan conveniently at bay for several months and drive them back and deal with the insurgency problem facing E. Pakistan while the defenders of W. Pakistan couldn't do the same. Not only that but the Indian commander Gen. J. S. Aurora and his officers were dumbfounded and amazed by Gen. Niazi's brilliant and savvy maneuver. How can you lable Gen. Niazi the way you did when he was called "Tiger" and soldiers under his command referred to his brilliant war tactics as "Pakistan Zindabad. Tadbeer-e-Niazi Allah hu Akbar". He was the most honored and most decorated soldiers Pakistan has yet to produce.
Gen. A. A. Khan Niazi was a man true to the cause of Jinnah's Pakistan born amongst those who destroyed what Jinnah built and Iqbal dreamed of.
May Allah have mercy on him.

i am really thankful to Haris Zuberi and Fallenpieta for being kind enough to reply with so much detail .... i accept my lack of knowledge on this issue as i havent read " Betrayal Of East Pakistan " or never heard the slogans " Tadbeer-e-Niazi Allah-o-Akbar"
i am thankful to both of u for showing me the other side of the picture as well
but then why Gen. Niazi is not accepted as a national hero by our Govt. his death was not even publicised on the media on a large scale.....
through out his life we don't see him talking in any convention .... the pakistani journalists also remembering him in bad words often .....and no day of mourning declared on his death
if he was a true hero he deserves the status of a hero

well, im glad to learn that you aree willing to look at the other side of the story. the many ppl who think he was a villain are the same ppl who think gen mush is a villain today. they are the ppl who were close to Bhutto at that time and today their families and friends hate the army because their own loyalties are with the civilin looters like NS and BB etc.
Niazi was an example of wrong place at the wrong time, and the politiocians exploited that. they dominated the media, over wrote the history, influenced the inquiry commisions and so on. so against all that Niazi was just one man, he tried to countge them but gave up as there was no poiint and anyway, many pakistanis know the truth anyway, so there was no point his running after them. we know he was a hero and wasnt the culprit. the journalists who protray him negative are among the illogical traitors who no sense of history as it actually was.
I wont call him a hero, but I agree with what Haris said.

hi! well im sure all pakistani news and media sites and agencies are independent, but im not sure if they are all totally unbiased. every news paper or magazine can carry a variety of opinions. while they may to some extent have a policy for inhouse writers and editors, they all end up publishsing views from free lancers too, so i guess one has to rely more ones own analysis.
do search for websites on yahoo or google, i cant remember any particular ones but there are a lot out there. :k:

It is unfortunate that majority of the people blame General Niazi. There were many factors involve in that sad incident.But instead to blame each other , best thing is to get lesson from this incident.
The Person who takes a right decision in da crucial time is called a Hero, so i will not call him a hero nor a culprit but the main thing is our country was divided.
Plus one thing is giving judgment is very easy , when eva we say some thing about some 1 we have to keep in mind the situation he was facing at that time.
