I continue to get tens/hundreds of emails from ‘widows’/sick-about-to-die in Nigeria who want to help “deserving” Muslims and want to transfer millions from their own land (illegally). I just salute to them but never had time to reply except for perhaps one.
Anyway, the other spam/phishing mail that I continuously get is either for my ebay account or paypal.
I don’t know how many people fall for it, I bet there are hundreds of vulnerable people who can’t figure out the deal.

I read it and laughed at it. This is why I think it is hilarious:
“The data of five thousands customers stored on computer backup tapes was** lost**.”
The data on “backup tapes” was lost after energy failure Yeah, if lightening strikes then backup tape could’ve been damaged.
“The information provided will be treated in confidence and stored in our secure database.”
If the data on backup tapes was lost how can one know if this one is really ‘secure’? … sure, I know about that ‘secure database’ where it is likely to be ‘stored’
Lastly, put the mouse on the link (DON’T CLICK!) and you will see where it takes you - the address points to a search query on google for some numbered IP address - yeah that is VERY authentic link
I have an account with HSBC (HongKong Bank). I got phishing e-mails stating that there is something wrong with my account. I was asked to click on the link and give the details etc etc. But HongKong bank got those people though.
Similarly, I use a Pakistani website to purchase CDs etc. I got the similar sorta e-mail stating that their backup data was lost due to some storm etc etc. That website owners are smart, they started sending personal e-mails with High Imp. to everyone to warn them.
I get atleast 10 inquiries a week from friends and family asking me if a certain email is legit. The best one recently was from our HR directory who got an email that her Paypal account was already charged some $300 + and if they didn’t authorize it to “click the link below”. It was some site in Korea which the link was for.
