I was in the Egyptian museum again earlier today and just thought I’d share a picture of, in my opinion, the most intriguing exhibit in there.
Now here was an interesting Pharaoh, he built a new city for his people on the West bank of the Nile for the first time (the West bank was usually reserved for tombs), began believing in one God and was postulated to be the step-brother of Moses by some authors. He was married to reputedly the most beautiful woman in all of Egypt at the time, Nefertiti of Sumerian descent.
He was very successful in his endeavours, for 30 years then all of a sudden his rule came to an end, he was discredited died and all trace of his tomb was lost. His city abandoned and a return for the masses to polytheism.
I have my own theories, but for now he’s my favourite Pharaoh :).
