Okay, this forum is degenerating into something that i hardly recognize anymore. For a change, let’s all try to do something constructive instead of:
- *my sect is better than your’s
- my way of praying is better than your’s
- i am a better Muslim than you* blah blah blah
This is what i want to propose. There are dozens of us here who read the news. Newspapers are filled with letters regarding Islam & Muslims; often times, these aren’t positive in nature. Everytime we read something, whether it is negative or positive, in the media regarding Islam & Muslims, let’s try to respond to it in a constructive manner. First post the letter in this thread, then post your response to it. Even if it doesn’t get published, at least you will have sent something to the editor(s) of that newspaper. Jihad is on multiple levels - it can be internal and external. Fighting ignorance, educating yourself - these are all forms of jihad. So - next time you read a letter in your local newspaper and it is related to Islam and/or Muslims, e-mail a response to the newspaper; if the letter addresses what you believe is something inaccurate (like Islamic oppression against women, jihad, hatred, etc) then address that in your letter. Finally, post both the original letter and your response in this thread. This will encourage others and, Insha’Allah, help to educate all of us about our own religion.
We can learn more if we work together to dispel stereotypes and prejudices. Or, we can continue to beat each other about which sect is superior and, ultimately, not hold fast to the rope of the Muslim ummah. The choice is upto you guys.
