The Pakistani media’s perception of Bhutto prior to her death was very different from how they portrayed her after her death.
The following image is a picture I took in Pakistan of a newspaper printed the day of Bhutto’s assassination (but prior to her assassination).
The next day, the same news source printed a whole edition as a tribute to Bhutto. They had a huge picture of her at the political gathering she was at just minutes before her death, and then inside they had her whole life story with pictures from her wedding and whatnot.
And the next day, all my aunts and uncles are sitting around talking about aah what a great person that Benazir was…
You know I got to Pakistan the morning before Bhutto got assassinated. All morning I was told Bhutto is an American tattoo, Americans are enforcing her on us, she is going to be a American puppet, just like Mushraff.
By that evening after her assassination ... the story was, the Americans did it! She stood up to them. She was the only one in Pakistani politics who had the political clout to deal with Americans, so they killed her.
Once she is dead, whats the point of still berating her? Thats why upon her death, everyone focused on her positives only. Plus, it was more a manner she died. Many people I know (including myself) did not agree with even a single thing in BB's political ideology, but were still upset at the way she was assassinated/killed (gun shot and suicide bomb blast). It was terrible.
Media in Pakistan went through the same transition. Death changes things, and brings positives in sharp focus. Nothing to lose sleep over.
but now after her death every one is like trying to score, crying for her in front of camera and media is portraying her as a national hero or something
I remember this story I was one told, about Pakistani politician Wali Khan, a controversial figure in Pakistani politics he once told a rally that living nations honour influential people while they live, dead nations honour them after their passing.
While I have never believed in the politics of the PPP, i credit them with being an icon for millions of Pakistanis. Benazir was an astute player of power politics, she knew that if it was simply Musharraf versus the opposition, Mush would have been out of power by now, so she undercut him in the US. As far as principles go that's not very high minded but as far as politics goes, she will get the last laugh come election day.

Chalo itni bhee mat chorra karo! You are a staunch PPP supporter!!!
^ I wouldn’t post such stuff if I were you, pal. If the Pakistani Police catches you saying something like that, it will be enough evidence for them to arrest you and beat your brains out.
